Zinc Magnessium and Calcium

Postby simon m on Thu Sep 11, 2008 4:12 pm

Just searching through various pots and I came across H&B Zinc, Mag and Calcium Tablets. (Still in date, Just)

Are these worth taking prior to bed?

The calcium will inhibit the zinc uptake but you may get some results from them.
How much mgs of each and what type or mineral are they?

If they are all chealated then thats ok. I personally wouldn't take them and go for a quality magnesium supplement or actual ZMA.

Can't remember why exactly but I'm sure Calcium supplementation isn't a great idea for men?

At them doses Si I don't think I'd bother.... surely you can get some cheap ZMA???

I can get stuff cheap (you know why), but in my store cupboard, so seems a waste not to use!

Where is the hot spot for cheap ZMA? I like the stuff, defo sends me into a deep sleep (wild dreams!) and I'm sure it's a good supplement all round, but gets a bit pricey...

vivid dreams are a sign of a deficiency of magnesium

That would make sense as I'm always deficient, more so recently with Rugby starting up.

apologies, this is incorrect.

Regular vivid dreams are a sign of a deficiency of zinc

However, if you get vivid dreams from starting to take a magnesium supplement then that is just confirmation of a magnesium deficiency.

I used to always wake up in the night for a wee when taking ZMA without fail.... sometimes twice. I mean huge long ones like I'd been out on the razz all night! Sometimes get a headache aswell and feel dehydrated.

It's only very recently that it's stopped doing this and I no longer get any of these effects... weird!

I've recently (just 4/5 days ago) started taking ZMA before bed and I've been having alot more dreams lately. Some strange ones too :D . Anyone else experienced this or is it a strange coincidence?

EDIT: Duhhhr, Sorry just read the rest of the posts. Should have checked before posting ffs.

@Bison: I'd say that ZMA is not for you then. Perhaps individual mag & sinc supps would be ok.

@Alex: make sure you are having good salts in all your liquids. You're gonna wanna try to figure out a way to not have to get up in the middle of the night... it's not good for progress/repair/general health to wake up for whatever reason at night.

My sleep has been rubbish at the moment anyway. Taking ages to drift off etc but I tend to go through phases like this as I don't switch off thats easily. I think eating late may not be helping.

Yeah you said this before and I give the ZMA a miss for a while. It's hard to find a good quality mag and zinc supplement though especially for the price I get my ZMA for from the US.... so I give it another go and I've been fine with it for the past 3 weeks now.

Must have been something wrong somewhere but seems ok again now :)
