oh yes, there's defo a lower limit. If that pic was taken a day before a contest then maybe ok. But yeah he is very lean indeed as well as looking quite under weight. Lean and under weight is not good; that is unhealthy.

It is obviously a lot more complicated than just about body fat %, but BF% is certainly better than BMI for example.

I don't get that skinny guy. Sure you can see every single muscle, but thy don't look that impressive - bit small really. Why would you bother? I'd sure like to get ripped, but I'd still wanna be a hell of a lot bigger than that..

well, he sure knows how to get lean. The million dollar question is: did he do it healthily??

also, he doesn't appear to know how to lift heavy though lol

The most basic rule of my approach is to just keep my diet pretty clean and healthy. I do eat junk, just not a lot or very often and my food choices are all pretty much fresh and non or minimally processed... I guess this makes me a 'lean bulker'. If I eat well above maintenance rather than grow (muscular growth) any quicker, I tend to be become quite fidgety and agitated and at the same time add extra b/fat. The bulk/cut approach doesn't really work for me.

The biggest two difference makers that help for me are a) carbs & protein within an hour of training, and b) a moderate-high protein content of diet. For bodyfat levels I always stay between 11 and 13 percent. Have never really tried to cut aggresively though so don't know how training at lower b/fat might affect me.

After going crazy on a bulk and gaining masses of fat when i started i dieted back down to sub 10%, then i bulked abit and shot up quickly to about 15% which is where i've stayed for probably over a year. I havn't tried to bulk or cut, iv just ate enough, i steadily got stronger and my body weight didn't budge too much, i think this is the way for me to do it. Don't go crazy on cals, and have carb/protein or fat/protein meals, carbs being in the morning and after training and of course eat clean. Junk food has no place in any athletes diet, fat is useless, unless you're a 125+ powerlifter, in which case fat can improve all of your lifts!

ATM though i want to get sub 10% and hopefully stay there.

I prefer not to put on too much fat, so try and keep as lean as I can. I mean you guys have seen my pics, what would you put my BF at? I suppose health4ni would be the guy to ask - I don't offend easily!

I love my food, I enjoy eating, but I do train a lot, but I also play a lot of sport too, so I feel that I burn up the calories through my day to day living anyway. I do have a little fat that I'd love to get rid of, but tbh I have so much hair you can't notice the fat! lol!

However I have definitely put on a percent or two of BF over the past 6 months, which isn't too bad as I'm sure I can get rid of it with a bit of self control/effort.

I think it's entirely possible to pack on some decent muscle without going OTT, but I guess people want more immediate results so go for the mad bulk option. I couldn't do that.

I agree that being overly lean doesn't do anything for me - sure you can see the definition and the developed muscle, but I find the size of muscle more impressive and interesting to me.

This is what I've found looking around - I think it's fairly accurate. Remember that women naturally carry more bodyfat, besides boobs are great!
