Which brand of cottage cheese?

Postby Orinoco on Wed Apr 23, 2008 4:40 pm

I eat a lot of this stuff, have tried asda, tesco and sainsburys. Asda was - up until recently - the best tasting imo, but lately every tub is very watery.

Anyone tried other supermarket brands or other makes?

I use the ASDA - find it watery but 10% discount says watery cottage cheese is the best kind. She brought some stuff back from Morrisons the other month 0%fat - was quite dry but was ok. I get through a load of the stuff also since ditching MP Bedtime Extreme I have it last thing every day - sometimes I bung a scoop of whey in there too which is surprisingly nice if you mix i through properly. It's also useful for padding out protein content of a salad if your chicken breast is a bit on the small side...

It's a cheap source of protein for sure. I read somewhere else about mixing cottage cheese and protein powders (think it was a chris shugart recipe)....might try that next meal. Mixing in some strong cheddar is another way to spice it up a bit. Although I did stupidly attempt going for a melted cheese topping affair with a quick blast in the micro, but the cottage cheese turned to slurry.

Brain....gear.....!

Loseley: their natural and sundried tomato ones are the best I've ever had (Tesco's do them).

Sainsbury's Jersey (or Guernsey) Taste The Difference is also very good.

I don't go for this a low fat skimmed dairy poo. And in honesty I don't think anyone needs to.

You're quite right...but on 1400 cals (excluding aminos) daily it's a squeeze getting the protein in

That losely cottage cheese is making me feel quite hungry. My next meal is low fat cottage cheese with a scoop of whey. It's a new one to me but it's gonna fill me up more than whey alone :)

It's more like 1800 cals when I've factored in aminos, fish oils, greens formula, milk etc which is 10 X bodyweight. My activity levels are down due to health problems at the moment, so that's just maintenance. My bf is (I would estimate) around 10% which is has risen up a couple of percent due to illness. It's funny, but it seems very localised around my belly button which is consistant with the poliquin take on high cortisol...

In the past, to get down to 6% I've used 10 X lbm. In my experience, people just won't drop cals low enough to get lean.

I never bother counting calories. I tell my clients not to bother either. I think it creates stress in itself due to always worrying how much this food or that food has in it, and how much are you allowed to eat.

For you, I'd just knock down carb intake; keep it high protein & high good fats. carbs from veg & some fruits etc. But having said that, you're probably ok with carbs as you're seemingly naturally quite lean anyway.

Believe it or not, I'm happier counting cals than not. I guess it's a personal thing as I used to struggle to get my overweight clients (when I was training ppl) to keep even the the most basic food diary ...and that was just for a fortnight so I could see what they were consuming. They'd leave out soooo much stuff, almost as if they thought that by not writing it down the calories wouldn't count!

Kind of how new labour run the countries finances ;)

Exactly; people lie. So to me it's a waste of my time and there's. I use the Body Composition results as a way to tell if they've been telling me the truth. Plus they get to see the results etc.
