Whey choice - Confusion !!???!

Postby Gym-pig on Sun Aug 03, 2008 11:14 am

A new guy has started at work who is also a personal trainer . Anyway we got onto the subject of whey last night as I need to reorder .

His take on whey is that anything that has not been cold filtered is useless as most of the protein is destroyed by the heat treatment . The majority of heat treated whey is therefore little more than coloured water .
He recommended brands which cold filter and said ignore the rest . He named one in particular but not sure if i can mention it here

Can anyone help with my confusion over whey ??

Do I buy as normal or buy the more expensive cold filtered ?

Suffice to say BSD Optimise Whey would be one of the few worth consuming.

The thread is in diet and nutrition and it's called "July BEEF: How we make better protein powder"

Also Mr Pig, there is no problem mentioning competitor products here on ESN.

ESN are not scared of competitors like another well known forum.

Why are Chavs like slinkies? They have no real use but it's great to watch one fall down a flight of stairs.

Yep just read that stuff on the net re CNP

It was CNP or reflex that was recommended .

GP - BSD are also one of those that ONLY hold the quality CT UF Spray Technology whey. End of the day mate you get what you pay for.

What confuses matters even more mate is that there are manufacturers now offering WPC from dark cheese and some dont even know it ;[its upto £1 a kg cheaper at trade which is ALOT]! This MAY explain why some companies offer cheap whey! cough cough!

What your friend said is spot on though, Ion Exchange is crap and very cheap.

hang on...the protein content has to be what is labelled as does the amino acid profile. If a protein has been 'destroyed', its been...what? broken into amino acids? deaminized or something? meh, not buying it.

Im not saying production methods will not effect quality at all, but i know id rather save 20quid on some bulk whey and still be pretty confident the difference in effects between the two would be negligible (at most).

If you can afford cold filtered stuff such as CNP then go for it. Personally I cannot, therefore have to go with whoever is cheapest.
