Where to train in 2010 ??

Postby Gym-pig on Tue Dec 08, 2009 6:14 pm

What would you guys/girls do ??

Im torn on where to train next year

Option 1

DW Gym - £24 a month . Good leg equipment and theres a steam room jacuzzi etc . Unfortunately the customers are predominately young fuckwits and the dumbells on go up to 50 kg . Its not easy to get motivated here as im stronger than 90 % of the people and bigger than most . Takes 20 minutes travel time each way .

Train at home / Local BB gym for legs

Local Gym is £35 a month of £3.50 a visit . No steam room etc . But the customers are far stronger and bigger than me and Ill naturally raise my game . The equipment is good and the dumbells weigh more than Max's head . Also the owner is a competitive BB and will give advice training which is far superior to that given by the 19yr old toilet cleaner at the DW . Travel time is 10 minutes each way or 0 if using my own gym that day .

What would you do - BB gym or DW ? Big fish small pond or little fish big pond ? Jacuzzi or advice ???

How often would you have the time to use the steam rom jacuzzi anyway you old fool?

Get to the big boys gym. the travel time and extra petro makes up for the extra cost easy!

You better not go for the pussy gym or i'll lose all faith in coppers everywhere! :D

I used to use the steam room/jacuzzi etc. It's nice for a treat, but you get bored of it eventually, and nothing beats DOMS alleviation like a brisk hour walk in between gym days.

I'd go for equipment everytime.

Quick update to this thread

DW is now history and now at BB gym where the owner is a competitive BB as are many of the trainers

This is a huge improvement

- no egos - some impressive physiques but no look at me egos or bullshit !!
- I have to take weight off every machine rather than add it and this has caused me to raise my game and already my leg weights are increasing
- advice . I was talking to a lad about back training the other day and getting some good advice - never to old to learn !
- the feel of the gym ! - its all about hard work , everyone there is there to bust a gut !

Im now not one of the bigger guys and I am definately not one of the strongest and this is what I need to get better !

Powerbeck is only £190 for the year if you pay up front, works out at about £16 a month! Has a steam room plus you can use the other room that's been built on the back for the cage fighters if you want to do circuit training.

Weights definately aren't a problem... only downsides are no power-cage, only squat rack and no air-con in the summer (though you might see that as a plus - more sweaty men to look at ;) )

You always need goals, so it must be great to train there - David Lloyd is good, but it's a bit vanilla!

That wouldn't be hard at the moment, I've not so much as looked at a DB for about 5 months now.... though a return is imminent :)

Yeah they do a pay as you train, it's expensive though at about £5 a pop I think. You should come down for a session one day when I'm in a bit better shape... do some curls in the squat rack :D

Its £3 at mine which means its cheap as chips for me to train everything at home except legs and then just go to the gym to use the leg equipment .

I think Paul Georges Olympic Gym is £4.50 but that looks like it wipes the floor with Bisons Chav palace ;)

Yeah it has more than it's fair share of idiots but so does every gym, just in different guises. Has it's fair share of good lads aswell.
kp1512 wrote:£5 a pop expensive?...bloody hell....thats a bargain down here!

Comparatively it is. As in the type of gym, it's just a basic, sweaty hole, no air-con or anything and half the light bulbs don't work, etc. Also when you consider I only pay £16 for a whole month, then I think £5 seems a lot for a single session.
