Tyre Flipping - What day?

Postby Rab on Sun Aug 03, 2008 7:47 pm

We have a big ass tractor tyre out the back of the gym and a nice flat field. Since the weather is decent and all, i fancy going out and doing a bit of tyre flipping.

What day would be best to include this in? My lower day, or upper back day?

Its one of those big ass ones and is about the same dimensions as this one below, but not as deep with the rubber and looks lighter.

Treat it as a sort of deadlift Rab,thats how a few of the guys down my old gym used to view it.

Legs day.

Tyre flipping is great. And when performed on a day with 2 sessions it should be done in the second session (evening).

Also, tyre flipping requires good technique. It is very easy to injure yourself with this exercise; mainly the biceps as people think they can just curl it up! lol

I can imagine the injury aspect with Biceps. using the leg drive to get it up

how could i adjust my lower day to put this in? I was thinking...

Front squats
RDL
Tyre flip
Split squats
Donkey calf raises

I need to lay off back squats just now to let an injury clear up. Damn thing is hurting again!

drop the donkey calf raises and leave the tyre flip to the end. Your work your calves enough with that I reckon.

Heh, I don't bother with my Calf's anymore.

Just let Power Cleans, Clean Pulls, Hang Cleans and Cardio deal with them.

Personally i'd stick it in first for a couple of workouts. Prioritise getting the form right, as your new at it and it'll take some time to get used to the motion. Then once thats sorted put it wherever you want it safe in the knowledge you know what your doing when you're knackered come the end of the workout if you do choose to finish with it.

When I did it, everything was destroyed for about a week. That's how it felt anyway.

Ok, either do alone (as the two above say) or still do it last. Why last? Cos you're front squat etc will be fecked by it and tbh I think you'd rather fail a tyre flip than a front squat onto the floor! ;)

Well it was upper back today, the gym was shit so had to use the wee fitness gym upstairs. Itr was packed so we decided to do a little pullups and then all go out tyre flipping.

We did relays one man up the park, the other back down. 4 laps each and i was on my fecking back I swear to god. That is seriously hard work! felt it through my legs back arms shoulders the lot! mostly my legs and lower back as i was using them to drive it up quick and keep the momentum going.

Wil take a few snaps the next time for the boys
