Tuna

Postby Marks1972 on Tue Apr 01, 2008 3:37 pm

I just got into an argument with captain Ketosis here (skinny diet and cardio boy) about Tuna. He insisted that it was a great protein source and ive been saying its not.. but then ive realised i dont know why its not :D

Is it that it lacks the EFAs of oily fish, the Test boosting properties of red meat and contains too much mercury or is there more to it?

You get pleanty of protein for the ammount you eat (probably more so than practically most things) and it's just protein you're wanting, it's pretty good.

Yes too much of it's bad and yes there are superior fish, like mackrel etc, but i'd hardly say it was a bad source :)

I'm eating a wholemeal tuna sandwich right now, 1 hour pre-workout!

First time of ever heard someone argue that tuna is a bad source of protein. The best? May be not. Its like an MP question this one lol ;)

Not a bad source then, but compared to others like red meat or oily fish?

I think red meat is superior overall in profile......but in terms of digestion sea food will win.....

Hehe i worded it a little wrong, its more that hes saying that tuna is the best protein source, mainly as it has 0 fat and easy to eat in large quantities.

Sometimes I don't mind Tuna, but I get very sick of it very quickly.

I really wish i liked seafood more, not just as it would add variety to my protein sources but it always looks so nice.. just cant stand the taste of it.

Tuna is bad. End of.

Even the UK government tell pregnant women not to eat it due to mercury levels(or once a week or something). And you know what governments are like; very stand-offish about such things to not scare people. But basically it's shit.

Eat mackerel, sardines, wild salmon instead.

Tuna is a big bloody fish. Thus it eats quite big fish that have already eaten other fish etc etc etc and so the tuna accumulates all the heavy metals. Our seas are pretty much fucked. Only a few areas are any good and clean (ish).
