Nah. It hardly hurts at all now and I've got quite a bit of callous build up on my thumbs. But honestly I can't ever see me going higher than 150kg on deads naturally so I doubt I can do much damage and frankly I'd rather duff up my thumbs than tear a bicep. If it really becomes an issue I'll switch back to double overhand.

If your only problem at present is a broken thumb use straps.

Cool, I'll give it a whirl at some point then- can't be much worse for your hands than climbing eh!

BINGO! That's actually one of the reasons I started doing hook grip so I wouldn't cry like a wuss everytime I went crack climbing. And for the dirty minded amongst you this means when one goes climbing a rock face that has a long crack in it that you jam your hands, arms and feet in. Not anything else!

I tried hook grip, once i got to 180kg though the pain was just too much for my thumbs unfortunately.
