The Melatonin Trials

Postby Mike on Thu Jul 03, 2008 4:23 pm

Anyone used it? Been reading lots on it lately so bought some and started it last night. 3mg. Didnt sleep too well. Was kinda expeccting to wake up feeling like a new man lol in the studies I read 5mg resulted in deep sleep, elevated gh levels and decreased bodyfat and in one study it was found to be as effective as test for preserving muscle mass.

Anyway.....I shall take 6mg tonight and hopefully I wake up looking like Flex Wheeler

Wouldn't it be a bit worrying if you woke up black.....and kept the same sized tackle?

It is brilliant for jetlag!

Someone once told me it was also great taken before workouts for a better pump (or something) but I've never found anything to back that up

Back to OP.

Won't melatonin have a negative feedback, so in essence you shut down natural production?

I can't see why that would work. It's a yin supp for evening time / relaxation to promote sleep etc. That's why the body produces it when it's dark and time for sleep

I dont know about that but i see were your coming from. There are many studies and articles pushing the huge benefits of supplementaion of Melatonin, and i havent seen any evidence not to because of the feedback loop. Its appears with age (like most things disappear) melatonin reduces and issues with sleeping can occur There was a article in Muscle Mag regarding this compound and its involvement with testotserone, it was very intersting and looks like its related towards aging process, so supplementaion could delay the aging process!!. There are studies relating to this which have been published that it increased the lifespan and slowed down the aging process of rats by some margin...It also has influences on the sex hormones and immune system and there is evidence it increased the life expectancy in some cancer patients, sounds good to me.

I've been using Melatonin for a good few months now, always order a bottle when ordering from the states... hard not to at just $1.95 a pop!

I like to take it when I train late and only get home from gym around 10pm, helps me wind down and get to sleep.... or maybe that's just the 3x glasses of red wine I necked... who knows lol?

I do find it easier to wake up when I've used Melatonin... say I only get to sleep about 1am-2am and have to be up at 6am I'll feel fine, especially when I stack it with GABA :)

Supposedly a very useful and powerful antioxidant aswell.

Yeah that's why I never tried it, thought it was gym balonny.

Melatonin has always helped me with jetlag, but not that much with the insomnia.

Anyone know why this isn't available in the stores over here?

I'm pretty sure GABA is banned for naturals, but what about this?

The Medicines Control Agency declared in 1995 that melatonin should be restricted to prescription, as it is a hormone.

Either way took 6mg last night......cant say I felt anything. I think I'm fuck'd up or what? might try taking 9mg......both times I've taken it with food.....maybe I should take it on empty stomach? I always eat just before bed though.

I have 1kg of GABA sitting here too....although its not mine I have been tempted. There is a theory about stacking melatonin+GABA. I might try stacking melatonin+valerian as the valerian worked well before.

Ok so tonight 3mg on an empty stomach..........

There is a article I read in MD that talks about meltatonin and GABA raising GH levels and in the 80's BBers used to take GABA before they trained. Now......This might have worked....but imagine trying to bench 160 feeling like your jacked up on sudafed lmao

This is true melatonin along with DHEA and Carnitine and Test all decrease with age which could explain age related saggy-ness, weight gain, strength/mass loss etc etc etc

Its very interesting and ive read alot of studies on this subject, i love the stuff and it would be a great if it did slow down the aging process, just think GH in tablet form mmmmmmmmmm now that sounds like marketing

Well I took 9mg of this stuff last night and I had the worst night sleep in a long time. Not sure if the stuff I bought it fake or if I'm just f'd up.

All I want is a decent nights kip. Any ideas?

Woow cant believe you didnt respond with 9mgs of melatonin, maybe you should try other products or even go to the docs, if its really becoming an issue and effceting your life i would go to the docs and get some Zopiclone for a couple of weeks see if that gets you back into a rhythm...

That zopiclone sounds like some serious shit! Will try a few other things before that.....as I'm asthmatic now sure that'd be a good idea to take??

Am gunna get some gaba soon and try that. I'll keep taking the melatonin for now see if anything happens. I've even cut down on caffeine (only have 200mg per day) but that hasnt helped.

Think I'll get some cheleated zinc too

cheers for the suggestion. If the gaba+zinc dont work I'll be asking for that next time im at the docs :)
