Supramaximal holds

Does anyone use these in their training? I was thinking these would be especially useful for the front squat. Even holding the weight in place is tough and training the hold position would give a more stable squat. Something i'll definitely give a go i think.

yep statics are awesome at the end of the set - going straight into it at the midpoint.

Sounds like you're talking about another technique i think?

Supramaximal holds are done either before/worked into an exercise, or trained separately. So i'm thinking for front squat i'd unrack 180kg and stand there for like 10s. i could do these before my tops sets at 160 to prime the nervous system and give myself a psychological boost at the lighter load. Also there would be a training effect from holding the larger weight, strengthening the stabilising muscles which would carry over to full squats.

Definitely wouldn't do these at the end of a set.

Similar

For example on the smith - id do say 130kg and then do my set and add 15kg a side and hold at the midpoint for 10-20 secs. but only after the main set...def feel good after youve done them not during as the pain can be immense

There was a very good powerlifter at my old gym, he used to cycle in walk outs for back squats.

If you train heavy compounds, with some direct ab work then i can't see the need tbh.
If my top set was 160 and i wanted to train with 180 i'd set up a high box to squat too after i'd finished with 160. More beneficial then just standing with it imo.

I know the toad in my gym likes to do a fair few walk outs.
