(supposedly) Poliquin PWO protocol.

Postby Orinoco on Mon May 12, 2008 8:46 pm

Found this on some random forum whilst researching other stuff...just thought I'd post it here. Not sure how old it is, or if it's even from the man himself...but anyhoo....

Charles Poliquin

Immediately PWO -18 grams of essential (indispensable) AA's

15 minutes later (shake)
-50 grams of whey isolate
-100 grams of 50/50 mix of dextrose/maltodextrin
-3g taurine
-600mg R-form of alpha-lipoic acid
[i]
45 minutes after workout (shake) [/i
]-30g whey isolate
-100g of 50/50 mix of dextrose/maltodextrin
-3 caps of gymnema sylvestre, banana fruit extract, fenugreek

Nice use of R-form lipoic acid. Not sure if it's K-rala or the superior Na-rala as this makes interpereting the dose he suggests a bit difficult. Still, 300gms would be fine of na-rala.

Wouldn't you be causing glucogen release with that much protein?
Also I'm sure polyquin would favor HWP.

my issue with that logic is how much slower will protein be absorbed with that amount of Carbs? Is using Isolate then a benefit?

Using isolate will have very little benifit over concentrate.

I'd say that was an old'ish PWO protocol for Charles. But still probably close to what he has I'd say.

From my last contact with him in August 08 he wasn't yet a convert to EAAs, preferring lots & lots of BCAAs.

The Lipoic Acid will be his own one: and in fact it will probably be the one he calls Yin-RLA (Biotin 4mg, Taurine 500mg, R-Lipoic 100mg [Sodium-R-Lipoate]). I have this stuff too; tis very good.

One thing to remember with Charles is that he has access to a shit load of supps, and he makes sure to swap protein types & supp types pre, & post ALL the time. This is actually very sensible; indeed I try to do this myself. Even with multi's etc. The body gets used to supps quite quickly and so changing brands/makeups etc is good.

I don't undrstand how the body could get used to green tea ? or GSE ? WTE lemon juice.

for example a supplement such as benfotiame or Beta alanine I don't see how the organism could get used to it ?? especialy when fighting glycation.

is it bad to use on a daily basis olive oil as it has an active effect on the genes coding the synthesis of SOD? if you stop you loose the positive effect.

Just some questions I ask to myself, tbh polliquin is an expert but some times.... :D :D :D I've been on his site and had a look at his supps I prefer BSD hahahahahaha !!!

I mean the body gets used to combinations of supps. Like multis etc.
Even green tea products can be made differently; and I'm talking about ones that are in caps already. Not bulk suppliers of pure form stuff.

And many of Poliquin products are about getting people healthier... not body building, adding muscle, cutting etc etc.

Fortunately though, being healthy tends to assist the bodybuilding process :D

I'm quite suprised at how much carbs is there, especially low GI stuff. Fair enough the first lot I understand, but having even more sugar 45 minutes later?

My PWO is...

30-50g WMS

15 minutes later...

30-40g Whey
1g Vitamin C

1 hour later I have a proper evening meal.
This is ten percent luck, twenty percent skill, fifteen percent concentrated power of will. Five percent pleasure and fifty percent pain.

Charles is very lean and trains very hard. Lots of carbs is ok.

Wouldn't you be causing glucagon release with that much protein?

Would this be a problem (unless one was an ectomorph)?

You could use Na-RALA to dampen this down.
