Spelling mistake

Postby ollie on Tue Feb 12, 2008 5:48 pm

Sorry to be so anal, but under diet and nutrition it reads:

Whether your anti-fat, pro-fat, pro-carb, or simply want to ask a diet based question, here is the place!

Should be "you're" - just a pet hate of mine

I was on it too but then saw kp had already made the change as I was about to type...
'Behave like you are the best...and you'll have the best chance of being the best you can be.'

'Be effective: do what works...and keep doing it.'

'Bask in the turbulence of my magnificence.'

Is it just me or should ti be .....this is the place instead of here is the place?

Oh and Ollie, technically that's not a spelling mistake, it's a grammatical mistake. ;)

Nope I didn't, I'm danish you know... What is it?
I'm very interested in linguistics, and I'd probably want to read it... :)

Fowler wrote an early (1926) guide to English usage - A Dictionary of Modern English Usage. Well known for its prescriptive tone & dry wit, the book became known simply as 'Fowler'.

examples:

Hackneyed phrases
...all would be well if the thing stopped at the mind, but it issues by way of the tongue, which is bad, or of the pen, which is worse.

Inversion
Writers who observe the poignancy sometimes given by inversion, but fail to observe that 'sometimes' means 'when exclamation is appropriate', adopt inversion as an infallible enlivener; they aim at freshness and attain frigidity.

Brewer's usage and abuse of the English Language is worthy of consideration.

Could be out of print as I last used it many years back.

Brewer's Dictionary of Phrase and Fable is also a good reference book.
