Sparky's Cutting Progress Journal

Postby Sparky on Sat Jan 24, 2009 2:53 pm

Hey guys,

I'm new on here but I've done quite a bit of reading on the board before. I'm a mate of Shicky's who pointed me in the direction of this board. I've been on alot of different fitness boards and have done alot of reading into it. I'm not a "noob" but again I'm no pro either. I can squat 1.5BW, DL 100Kg, BP 70Kg and OHP50kg. While these aren't outstanding numbers, I am proud of my achievements. Especially my squat. Again, I'm no pro and nor do I pretend to be, I'm just someone who strives for athleticism and knowledge.

Shicky is a very good mate of mine and although be talk about our training to eachother alot, we have fairly different ideologies! :P Over the next 8 weeks, like Shicky, I am going to try and cut my BF% down while hopefully maintaining and if not, slightly gaining a bit of muscle. I am a firm believer in carbs. I love them. I LOVE carbs and for the life of me wouldn't get rid of them. While I have been a strength 5x5 enthusiast in the past I am going to be giving this German Body Composition jazz that Shicky narks on to me about a go.

Routine:

Day1:
A1 Squat
A2 Dips
B1 Bench Press
B2 Push Press
C1 Leg Raises
C2 Cable Wood Chop

Day2:
A1 DeadLift
A2 Chins
B1 Bent Over Row
B2 Momentum Curls
C1 Crunch
C2 Sit Up Knee-to-Knee

My measurements:
Neck 15"
Chest 40"
Waist 33" 37"
Hips 38"
THigh 24.5"
Calf 15"
Arm 13"

Weight: (before Creatine 1st thing in the morning)
13st 1lb

NEW DIET:

Pre Breaky: Protein Shake w/Water + 5g Creapure
Breakfast: 3 whole eggs scrammbled w/SS Milk + Piece of Fruit (and no doubt a BIT of brown sauce ;) )
Meal 1: Tuna, Wholemeal Pasta, Veg mix w/Mayo
Meal 2: Tuna, Wholemeal Pasta, Veg mix w/Mayo
Meal 3: Muller Light with 20g Almonds
(Some don't have much sugar and have infact almost the same amount of protein as carbs...trufax)
Meal 4: Meat and Veg
Meal 5: Protein shake w/Milk

PWO: Whey Protein Shake + Creatine (creapure)

Typical Week:
Mon: GBC Day1
Tue: Judo
Wed: GBC Day2
Thu: Yoga
Fri: GBC Day1

Any feedback is greatly appreciated and it's good to be apart of the boards. Look forward to hearing from you guys!

Cheers :D

I suppose I probably should mention a bit of back story to me actually doing this. Two nights ago I went out for a friends B-Day and got absolutely shit-faced. I returned to my humble home and KO'd on the couch...then someone thought it'd be funny to take my eyebrows off. Completely. Sometimes it takes something that shit for you do get put into gear. I won't be touching Alcohol til 24th Feb (My B-Day) and I can only assume it'll be marginal at best. Never again. I have to wear a beany everywhere and I shall not be having any interaction with the opposite sex for at least a month. Raging. Absolutely raging. Shicky thinks its hilarious. Bastard.

Bread sucks, and sucks even more on a cut. ;)

Love it. Absolutely love it. I'm a student too...it's cheap and cheerful.

Just gonna suck it and see what happens. Cals In Vs. Cals Out and all that jazz.

Actually, any suggestion?

Brown basmati rice is my favourite carb source. Can be eaten hot or cold ;)

It's fairly high GI and fairly high in sodium. Neither are condusive to cutting. As you are fairly active most days you would probably get away with it.

However if your cut stalls it's the thing to axe.

You probably could do with more veg, preferably green.

I'm a firm believer in carbs for certain body types but the whole diet is poor really,it also seems to be very low calorie for an active guy thats average sized.

What do you eat to maintain body weight? What body type are you? Are your legs really the same size as your waist? Welcome to ESN :)

WOOPS! No, it's fixed now, was supposed to say 24.5"! I'm not here to lie about things.

I thought the diet might be too low in calories. I was thinking about swapping the granary wholemeal bread for wholemeal pasta or rice. I don't track my calories so couldn't even tell you what I eat to maintain BW.

I've always been a big guy. I was very fat when younger and through exercise and nutrition, have got to the stage I am now. I am quite a big boned person and used to think I found it easy to put on fat. The truth is, I don't actually think I do. I've been faily good at maintaining my BW for the past 1-2years. If anything, over the past couple of years I've put on a good bit of muscle and lost some fat. I find it quite easy to put on muscle.

If that's any indication to what body type I am then feel free to let me know. Ecto, Endo, Mesmo...I'm not sure. I think it'd be unfair to say I was a true Endo.

The Mesomorph Body

The mesomorph has well-defined muscles and large bones. The torso tapers to a relatively narrow and low waist. The bones and muscles of the head are prominent. Features of the face are clearly defined, such as cheek bones and a square, heavy jaw. The face is long and broad, and is cubicle in shape. Arms and legs are developed and even the digits of the hand are muscled.

Other Traits of the Mesomorph

The skin of the mesomorph is thick and the mesomorph tans well. The hair is heavy in texture.

I think some of those traits describe me better than an endo...however, I'm sure I have features of both. I will put up pictures soon. I feel I have good genetics, I just have fat covering them! I eat too much crap to be honest...even if it is relatively little compared to others.

Hi,
my sympathy for your eyebrows...
have you considered some emergency solutions like:
1) draw them with an eyebrow pencil (or a blak marker if you think that make-up is too gay)
2) you could cut some of your hair off and fix it with some fake eyelashes glue
3) if you don't want to damage your hair too, get some hair off a black cat/dog and fix it with some fake eyelashes glue

Most of all, tell your friends to stop trying to be real-life dirty sanchez, they might get hurt!
And consider yourself lucky they only shaved your eyebrows, youtube dirti sanchez, you'll see that they have a penchant for shaving heads too! :o

DISCLAIMER: I won't consider myself liable for any adverse effect should you follow my suggestions.
Specially should you sneeze whilst harvesting your hair!!!

Good to see you got a journal up mate, please PLEASE shave your dog and use its hair as eyebrows. I'd love to see you explain that to the rents. I think you stand a chance of beating me now, I basically have one hand as I got my thumb raped in rugby, wish I hadn't bothered.

To be honest mate you definately need to cut down on the carbs, I think you have more endo traits than you believe and your carb sources are generally.....wank :)

I'm afraid that the guys are right Sparky! If you want to cut then cut carbs you will have to do! Regardless of your body type you will need to do that, but if you are more endo than anything else (and am sure Shicky knows you well enough to be accurate on that) then you will DEFINITELY need to cut the carbs. Sad but true..

BUT.... as an ex carbaholic myself (I didn't think I could live without pasta and rice) you will be amazed at how your tastes change if you can just get through the initial period. I actually dread the thought of pasta now.

Ah of course I've alot of endo traits, but at the same time I'm not a big round podgy fucker! I have more BF than I'd desire but at the same time I'm definitely not "fat." Why am I even saying this!? You know me! :P You're right though Nicky, need to get some good carbs in there.

Tell me this though, how could I possibly get enough calories in me without carbs? Genuine question. Apart from nuts...

Shicky wrote:Also mate how exactly are you working through your GBC days? I assume you got it off T-nation or something? Looks quite different to mine

Ah found it on the net. Sure I told you I was never going to do GBC unless I found a version of it with compound lifts. I'll show it to you next time I see ya.

I've lost BF eating lots of carbs before...in fact thats how I got to where I am now...but I am here to take advice. Surely there can't be anything wrong with getting some carbs down me for 1/2 the day then the next 1/2 protein fat? What type of food do you eat now If you don't mind me asking. Any help is again, greatly appreciated.

Hi,
my sympathy for your eyebrows...

:) Thanks for your suggestions. I'm gonna let them grow for a week and see what to do from there. I'm raging (as Nick knows) I wanted to meet someone next week and my plans are now ruined. Vengence will be mine!

All in all, I am most definitely largely an Endo, with a few Mesmo traits. I don't care too much, this is the body/genetics given to me. No matter what the hand dealt is I still have to make best use of it.

An endo doesnt have to be a massive podgy mess, im endo like and im still a tiny runt. Oily fish, eggs, meat, brown rice, sweet potatoes.

Also sure with GBC you just throw in what makes sense for you, theres no definitive exercises you must or must not use. In general most compound movements dont suit it, i.e. deadlifts with 4second negatives = minus banter.

Also think our wee comp might be off, my thumbs broke

I was reading a different description of what an endo is, a better one and it makes more sense. Always assumed I was anyway. What about wholemeal pasta? I'm just going to stick with my routine, it's not going to change. Just want to suck it and see how it goes. The diet however, could always have room to improve.

Tell your prey that you burnt them while rescuing a kitten/puppy/other helpless cute life form from a fire?

After a week your eyebrows will look like a newborn hedgehog, if I were you I'd call the date off explaining your heroic act, and how you'd feel embarassed going out like that.
I bet that she will refuse to cancel, and she will not stare at your baldish eyebrows, and when she will see them she will see them as a sign of what a superhero you really are.
Problem sorted.
PS if your skin is otherwise unblemished, she will not fall for it. BUT if you can borrow a kitten/puppy/other helpless cute life form she will be too busy to fuss over it to notice

 Very good! I was thinking of winging it and telling people I shaved them off for charity. I'd look like SUCH a nice guy then! 8-) I'm going to still go out, sober ofcourse, and go find myself some nice beany hats up town.

So guys, my new diet will be as follows. I'll be honest, your suggestions and feedback is VERY welcome and appreciated...and I will for sure take it into consideration and make compromises. However, in order to be honest to you guys and to myself, I need to largely at least TRY my way first. It's all well and good me telling you I'm going to eat LOADS of veg and oily fish...but the truth is, that while I will definitely compromise and make the effort to eat MORE, it won't be the staples of my diet. Let me assure you though, I AM listening and I WILL take everything into consideration. :)

NEW DIET:

Pre Breaky: Protein Shake w/Water + 5g Creapure
Breakfast: 3 whole eggs scrammbled w/SS Milk + Piece of Fruit (and no doubt a BIT of brown sauce ;) )
Meal 1: Tuna, Wholemeal Pasta, Veg mix w/Mayo
Meal 2: Tuna, Wholemeal Pasta, Veg mix w/Mayo
Meal 3: Muller Light with 20g Almonds
(Some don't have much sugar and have infact almost the same amount of protein as carbs...trufax)
Meal 4: Meat and Veg
Meal 5: Protein shake w/Milk

So guys...any feedback on that then? Seems like a pretty solid improvement to me.
