Shick's cutting journal

Postby Shicky on Thu Jan 22, 2009 11:59 pm

Figured I should whack one of these up to track how things go, had about a month's break completely from training as I had uni exams and I was getting pretty frustrated about my hip injury which didnt appear to be recovering.

I will be following German Body Comp as my training protocol and diet will be paleo/alkaline based. I'll whack up my workouts from now on and the odd diet sample.

Weight has been jumping about a lot from 71.8kg to 72.8kg, I don't weigh nude and dry in the morning, just when I head to the gym which explains it but still odd as it has been going up as the week has progressed.

Supplements i'll be using will be fairly staple in order to help judge their effectiveness on me as I seem to measure inconsistently. Vitamins, greens, fish oils, whey. I have WMS, creapure, ALCAR, BCAA, Leucine, tyrosine to throw in as I please at any stage, want to set up a steady base first

Worth a mention is the first time I've been able to train legs injury free for a month today! Yay, weights were crap of course but im glad to get through it alright.

Im crap at goal setting but need to get it into my mind so i'll be extremely unhappy if I can't hit 68kg within 8weeks, I expect to get under this however

Good luck with it Shicky. Here's to staying injury free!

Know what you mean about the frustration of not being able to train due to Uni.....why, oh why, oh why, is it not possible to have the work spaced equally I do not know!

Don't really know to be honest mate, attempted to start back just before xmas and it went again so I threw the toys out of the pram. Canuck has kindly spent a lot of his free time advising me on what I can do to improve the situation and will hopefully be working with him in the near future when hes less busy. Hes given me two simple exercises to repeatedly do in order to get some stability in the area. So before my leg day I performed two sets of these and doing ATG front squats felt sweet as a nut.....bearing in mind it was the bar only but its the movement itself that does the damage and not the weights so im going to take it easy on these.

Tell me about it GB, i have to sit at a computer screen for hours on end so cant even do HIIT sprints between experiments like yourself....nutcase!

Cheers for the kind comments guys and girls, if I stay injury free I dont think i'd even mind missing my target....however if I do that would be retarded as it seems fairly easy to me

Don't you just hate when you get all the crap you want done out of the way nice and early so you can watch footy and rugby all day and enjoy your shitty leg DOMS while re-feeding......then you get a call from the local rugby club that they need a winger for the firsts....bollocks. Methinks I won't get called back after this given how my legs are feeling

Hola Nicholas,

While your watching football I'm in the Library "studying." There's only so much I can look at on a Saturday. Have work to go to later as well...raging. I'll probably just watch the United match though and hopefully get off early. Ah well...come Monday morning I am free again...alas...free without eyebrows.

Fraid I wasn't that lucky mate, was playing rugby for Holywood and I am never ever wearing their shirt again after that. They were literally so shit it was actually dangerous, my 10 was a fat git and didnt even attempt to make any defensive effort whatsoever. Thumb on my right hand feels really pants, I thought it was broken at first but think I may have got lucky and only staved it. Movement is severely hampered though and its swollen like a mother trucker. Managed to dump their 12 who was a big boy on my own face, I now have about an eighth of my original lips, eating is rather difficult and painful.

Referee fell on his arse though, great piece of comedy.

Shall stick up my diet for the day later, it wont be great as i was playing away and therefore spent a fair bit of time getting nothing in my system. Hoping the swelling on this bastard goes down so I can do arms and shoulders tomorrow

Todays Diet:

Breakfast - 603kcals
100g Porridge Oats
250ml semi-skimmed milk
30g Whey protein
tbsp Cinnamon

Meal 2 - 383kcals
232g Brussel Sprouts
64g Spinach
135g Salmon

Meal 3 - 821kcals
415g Eggs
15g Extra virgin olive oil
200g Chopped tomatoes
75g red onion
few grams of garlic

Meal 4 - 511kcals
Tinned makerel fillet
402g Frozen veg

Totals - 2317kcals - 130.6g fat, 167.3g protein, 123g carbs, 36.9g fibre

Far from perfect, would much prefer 5meals but as said I was away at rugby for donkeys, thats why I had the massive third meal. Didnt get anywhere near as much greens and lemon/lime water as i'd have liked but my lips are killing me. Been getting way too much protein I feel lately, today was better but dunno of much of a solution to this, its coming mainly from white fish. Dont usually have that breakfast before I get abuse, thats the first this week and my only option as I had no food at the other house really. Its normally salmon or makerel and veg

I think that looks OK!! Like you say another meal and more greens would have been better but you can only do what your LIFE and "injuries" permits!!! Rather liked the look of some of that myself as well! Are you feeling OK on it?

Oh dear though, that's pretty much the breakfast I have every day! I can't tolerate much else that time in the morning.

You NEED a Greens drink dude. I can sort you out with that; just PM/text me.

That is is actually a good day's food. The trick now is to eat as well tomorrow but try to not eat the same foods again.

Porridge is indeed fine... once every 4 days max say.
One easy way to get "porridge" in more often is to use a different food source. So instaed of oats, use rice flakes or buckwheat flakes (you can mix those two as they go well), or millet flakes (not that great though as they are sticky).

I'm gonna PM you about your hip issues. I've had another thought about it.

Yeah once I get into my stride with nutrition I rarely slip up, cheats dont do me much good. Feel pretty flat and small without many carbs but I bloat like a madman on carbs.

Nothing wrong with porridge at all, theres just better alternatives, especially for me.

Hands still very swollen, back to not sure whether its broken but I think it is due to the way its bending and the fact it kills if I dont keep it elevated, it is. Is there any alternatives to casts? I REALLY dont want to be stuck in them for 6-8weeks again

Yeah im still on the primal greens mate, what equates to a serving? I've just been using teaspoon for each 750mls or thereabouts. Gonna blag a 10% discount off phil richards hopefully, do you rate the greens he recommends? If i can blag it i'll maybe spend a week on the toilet with oxyflush and get some him salts.

How was the oly lifting workshop? Or you still dying?

Cheers for the thought mate

Oh yeah, forgot you had them from me lol

yeah 1 heaped teaspoon per litre. Him salts in that would be definitely worth it.

The Green Fuel that he recommends (as in the "best" Green drink) is now up to £40 ffs! They make feck all off 'em you see (well, some, but a few pounds is shit). There's others mate for less money. All you really need is one with lots of chlorophyll in it. You can get some for like £10! But they might taste gash.

Course was excellent. Will talk about it later.

Spent the day at A&E so diet has been very poo, was there for about 6hours, had brekky and a MRP shake till now....feel so ill lol.

Stuck in like a thermoplastic cast for a week then get re-evaluated. Apparently i've done ligaments or a minor fracture...they didnt seem sure which i find out. Feel like stuffing my face with shite foods tonight. Really gutted, this looks like a 6week job so dropping rugby and will be doing weights in 4weeks hopefully. Plan on doing 2 legs days this week but will be odd ones, cant hold barbells for squat work or DBs for splits. Will be fairly light

Indeed, ta for the kind words ladies and gents. Gonna leave this until I hear back from the hospital, thinking of moving back home for a bit as cooking my own meals and washing up is pretty difficult, this thing covers lots more of my hand than a cast would. Gonna stick with eating clean but not calorie counting so much. Bit unsure what I should do training wise, sweating tons will make this thing smell like ass and holding anything is near impossible in my right hand. Im particularly worried how long it will take to get back to chest/triceps movements

bummer dude

Not much you can do exercise wise except run & stationary bike.

Suppose leg machine and abs too.

Remember to put a arm-sweat-band above the cast to stop it getting all sweaty lol

Hope things turn out better than what you expect, maybe once you get used to the plaster and stuff you will find it easier to do at least the most basic stuff...
Try to keep the plaster under control, and pester nurses and doctors if it starts feeling too tight, or too large.
Also, try to keep it clean and dry ---> sounds like it's a waterproof thingy, but the bandages underneath are surely (hopefully...) not, and if they get soaked they can give you qute a few problems.
Good luck, and keep us updated!
