Running out of weight!

Postby Will on Wed Apr 02, 2008 9:35 am

Hi all,

I've got a small issue at my little gym (which does me proud really). The issue is that of the DBs. I'm pretty much getting up to the 40kg DBs now which are our max weight. Admittedly this is typically for Incline/Decline/flat DBs, one handed rows, pull overs...

It's not a big issue as my reps are still relatively low on some of the exercises 4-6 reps. I'm getting stronger and hence there will be get a time where 10-12 reps will be achieveable without too much stress (I hope!!! :D).

So I'm wondering whether you have any tips other than badgering my gym to buy some new DBs - I guess just doing maintenance and keeping the exercise going would be worthwhile?

tempo baby it's all about the tempo.

Try doing presses of 6 reps with 40kg DBs with a 6 sec eccentric phase, then fast up on the concentric. Apply this to other exercises where the weight of the DBs is causing an issue.

Oh I didn't think about tempo and mixing it up like that at all. Great tip!

We've got over 400kgs worth of 20kg plates, so I'm not likely to run out of those any time soon! :D

yeah lots of ways of making 40kg DB's hard work, tempo is a good one, low rest times are another... supersetting is another, pre-fatigue another...

tempo and what bison said....its all pretty much been covered other than the Oillie Method of Slappign the owner with a trout and demanding bigger db's!

we have some meaty dumbells. there is a 70k + db (its not marked. thats my best guess) we have that i cant even row for 1 rep. I leave that for the big boys!

I was hoping for big DB's last night but alas it wasn't to be. I reckon I could press 60's for a couple of reps.

I want them to give us a proper cage before I do that! I think I'm winning the argument! It's only a small gym and I pay next to nothing for membership so I've got it good really. We shall see!
