Does anyone else rest bar on floor between reps on romanians, been reading that people only lower it mid shins?

It depends for me on the load - if going really heavy and just 3 or 4 reps per set then I'll let the plates touch the ground, reset and lift again (kinda rest pause).

Normally though I take the bar just down to about an inch away from the ground and keep the reps fluid.

No, they are not meant to rest on the floor imo.

In actual fact, Rom Deadlifts start with the weight held in the upright position, then lower. But you can only do that with a rack/pins. I always go about 1-3" from the ground. Same for my clients. If you're not getting a good enough stretch then you need to get your ass further back and weight more on your heels.

I never lower to the ground either, but to within a few inches.

Elevating the toes helps as well.

Unless you've got pretty damn flexible hams I'd imagine its quite hard to do a Romanian dead form the floor. I start from the rack and go until I feel a deep stretch, usually about 2-4" above floor.

That's my take on RDL's too - they shouldn't touch teh floor.

If you're really flexible stand on blocks to get extra stretch, but don't touch the floor with teh weights.

interesting, suprised by this i've always asked people about it before and everyones always told me from floor. You don't have to be that flexbile (although your back might need to be a little bit), i have tightest hamstrings in world i can do it. Bend in my knees seems to be same as most peoples from what i've seen in vids etc.

p.s what i could definetly not touch the floor with though is sldl, deifntly not enough flexbility, you sure some of you guys who can't touch ground are pushing your ass back far enough and having bar close to shins?

Have no idea which technique is better or harder mind, for a bodybuilder i would imagine the constant tension one is though.

I've had alot of problems with my lower back, and i'm sure as hell i could touch the floor with a totally tight back. You say you've got tight hamstrings, so my guess is that you've got some lower back action going on. It may not be giving you problems, but it is a little risky imo. I mean you wouldn't do it with GMs, and GMs and RDLs should be mechanically very similar. Stand sideways to a mirror, go into and RDL and your lower back should show little to zero movement. To quote Happy Gilmore's coach 'It's all in the hips' . :D

fair point mate, i've only got one more session of doing these now though and i'm moving on to conventional and sumo deadlifting, so probs not worth changing it for last session i guess. I will try out this other technique next time i start a phase of doing them though.
