PS3 or Xbox

Postby Resurrected on Fri Feb 19, 2010 2:09 pm

Okay guys I'm finally going to hit the console market. Only other one I have owned was a megadrive!

Always been a PC gamer, although I haven't really played any games for quite sometime (last being WoW).

All the reviews of both consoles seem to say not much. I was originally leaning towards the Xbox but now looking may be at the PS3....As it is wireless enabled (no extra cost for a wifi adaptor), play blu-ray (although not that bothered), free online gaming.

So ESNers what would you go for?

I don't have either but if I was allowed to get one it would be the PS3.

I have a 360 but if I was buying today, I'd go with the PS3.

I'm a PS3 girl. The only reason I want an XBox is because Ubisoft aren't making the latest Splinter Cell for any other platform :x

I really do like the PS3. The graphics are superb and I have to say I've not noticed any real problems with the platform itself. I think it handles memory heavy games excellently, and is much more user friendly than it used to be. I really like the wireless controllers too.

I'd say PS3.

I've got an Xbox and I'm pretty happy with it, as a games console. Apparently the PS3 is pretty good when it comes to multimedia etc, plus it plays blu rays.

Do you think it's better for shooters Jake?

I've been pretty happy with the way PS3 handles them. Thinking of Call of Duty Modern Warfare in particular which is just awesome. Would be interested to know in a comparative sense though.

Whilst GoW may be the best, one game alone is not a reason to buy a specific console.

Gotcha. Well, when I win the lottery I will get both so I can play that and Splinter Cell!

I am agreed on that with you Ressie - as much as I love Splinter Cell I wouldn't buy an XBox just for that.

I have played on other people's XBoxes and I just on the whole prefer the PS3. I think they "handle" better, I prefer their whole set up.

I've gone for the PS3 - also bought Bioshock 2 & Uncharted 2:Among Thieves.

As long as Amazon get there delivery right I'll have it on Saturday morning :).....So once set up let me know your online handle & I'll be there for you all to kill as I have not played a FPS for years. I think last time I played was when TFC was the game to play.

Good choice.

I'll have to get me one of those at some point.

Bioshock was part of the deal, cost £15.00, so I'll trade it in & get something I want, probably Heavy Rain.

I got the 250GB slimline, bioshock 2, Uncharted 2: Amongst Thieves & a HDMI cable for £290.00. Took out a Amazon interest free card & £15.00 CREDITED TO CARD, SO BRINGS PRICE DOWN TO £275.00....so will not pay upfront :) & will cancel the card once machine is paid for as I do not need the card.....Best deal I could find when shopped around.

Rezzie, you just got cooler 8-)

I went with ps3 a few years ago as most of what i read said it's got a better potential and will outlive the xbox. So you made the right choice imo.

Bioshock 1 was a good game imo and i will get number 2 at some point. Tell me what you think of it. Uncharted 2 is meant to be ground breaking, haven't heard a bad word about it.

Other games you should think about getting; Assassins creed 2, modern warfare 2, Fallout 3, Metal gear solid 5, GTA 4. All real classics.

Karlos,

Just started playing Uncharted 2 & so far I'm very impressed. I'll let you know about Bio 2 once I have a go. Will take me a while to get used to the pad.

I have both, once I brought my PS3 I stopped using my xbox. Not because the PS3 was better but just because I was no longer interested in gaming so much. I mostly brought the PS3 for a blu ray player. Games are good on it too, as good as on the xbox if not better.

Generally online play on the xbox was much better as everybody has headsets and was just a nicer community to play against. With the PSN, whilst it's free, hardly anybody communicates and those that do are annoying as hell.

Depends how much, if at all, you intend on playing online.

Overall I was more impressed with the PS3. Couldn't stand the xbox once the dashboard changed with the update to have your own avatars etc. Really disliked it. The xbox is currently hiding behind my blu ray collection.

Edit: good choice :)

Okay,

Managed to get my PS3 to connect wirelessly to my network. I have most of my music collection saved on my PS3 together with quite a few movies. I've tried to use the PS3 function to search for multimedia & it cannot find a thing.

Any ideas on how to connect and stream from my PC through the PS3.
