Proprioceptive training

Postby Coop_de_Ville on Wed Feb 25, 2009 11:52 pm

Just wondering if anybody knows any decent proprioceptive training for increasing speed?
Much appreciated.

Hopping blindfolded? :)

Preconception, isn't that to do with balance and co-ordination? Not sure how training it could massively improve speed, unless it's related to running technique or summit.

Well its about how you co-ordinate your movements and how u feel them. The more u practice the more control u have doing it. So overspeed training running downhill gets you use to running at a faster leg speed than normal which can then transfer to your normal running.

Wouldn't plyos improve proprioception?

AFAIK it's about improving your balance against external forces.

One-leg balances. Stand on your left foot with relaxed, upright posture and with your right leg flexed at the knee so that the right foot is off the floor or ground. Your left, weight-bearing leg should be lightly flexed at the knee, hip, and ankle, as they would be when your left foot is on the ground during the act of running. Simply hold this position for one minute, rest for 10 to 20 seconds, and then repeat twice more. After a brief rest, complete three similar reps with your right leg as the weight-bearing limb.

A good starting point. More advanced would be doing that on a bosu ball (yes it does have some uses!)

Other examples are toe walking and heel walking.
