Posture, mobility and a generally strong/balanced body

Postby roadz on Mon Oct 10, 2011 2:55 pm

Haven't posted much recently but still lurking/reading the forums.

Basically, I have a shoulder injury/problem, which seems to have started around Feb, when I had a car accident (nothing major, going around 30mph). I had a whiplash injury and my shoulder started hurting. My shoulder now causes me pain whilst pressing and catches/clicks when I rotate it. I think this is a combination of the accident, trying to push myself too much, too soon after the accident and bad posture.

I did try to continue training for a good while, but I've come to the conclusion that there's no point trying to train light/train around the injury and I need rest so it can heal. So at the moment, I'm only training legs and arms; no chest, back or delts.

Anyway, in this time I think I want to work on my posture, mobility/flexibility and generally achieving a balanced body. I've been reading bits and pieces about posture, etc but would greatly appreciate any advice or good articles that can help with any of the above. Anything, from how to stand, sit, etc, no matter how little!

Why are Chavs like slinkies? They have no real use but it's great to watch one fall down a flight of stairs.

GP - None

There is never a need to kick sand in the face of someone whose been twated so badly with the ugly stick ;)

No good advice but you are a bunch of funny fuckers lol

I'm currently awaiting results of an x-ray (which I expect to come back clear, as I think it's unlikely to be anything to do with bones). If it does come back clear, I think I'll pay for some private treatment/physio.

Id imagine you have banged it durign the crash and kept training probably causing a bit of damage to tear waay ont he rotary coff tendon or in the joint. Seems that when you get a bit of inflamation and you dont use the nut and let it calm down and heal up before pounding on it with weights....it doesnt lead to good things

Cheers mate. I try do a lot of reading about shoulder issues and initially I thought possibly a tear but now thinking it's an impingement. Problem is finding a decent physio. I think I've found one, gonna have to go and see him and see how I get on.

Three articles that have really helped me over the years:

(Make sure to read parts Two and Three as well)

If you start incorporating Scap Push-ups (or even just full-ROM push-ups if you're traditionally a compulsive bencher) and Face Pulls I bet you'll see some fast improvements. I'll try and think of some other links when I have time; postural improvement is basically why I started lifting, even if I didn't know it at the time, so I can talk about it all day!

Cheers for that, really good read. I didn't quite digest all of it though, so gonna have to go over it again.

I've booked myself to see a physio. Hopefully he's a good one and knows his stuff. Apparently his Father was an osteopath, so you'd hope he's really clued up, rather than one of these that just sat the exams but hasn't got a clue when it comes down to real life.
