Achilles Tendon Pain - Bad Technique?

Postby Rab on Wed Mar 05, 2008 12:38 pm

I woke up thismorning and my Achilles tendon has been sore since. It has loosened off a bit now but i can still feel it a little sore.

I havn't done any sprinting or impact movements recently and the last i squatted or deadlifted was last week

Any ideas where this phantom pain has come from? Anyone know of exercises that can cause problems with the Achilles if bad technique is used?

I had problems with this when i was very young so im going to need to be careful. Ment to be training legs tonight!!!

Sounds obvious but any calf raises? I had to stop doing them about 6 months ago because of doing them with full ROM.

Hello Rab,

Try to see if you are not slightly dehydrated, I say slightly, I am sure you are laready aware of the importance of hydration .......

Try to keep your achiles tendons warm (thick socks) it changes the elasticity of the collagen.

Use alkalinising food

Fibrinolytic enzymes with enteric coating such as wobenzyme (germany) or flavenzyme (the american copy).
try using some recovery socks such as the BV sport ProRecup (quite expensive though)

Silicon heal support you can add in your shoes can help too.

And well of course MSM (30 grams a day !! ) and all the supplement you alredy know

what footwear do you have on when sqautting, cleaning, DL'ing etc?

Trainers suck ass for all of these. If your footwear is crap then the chances are that this is one of these things that's been in the post and has finally manifested itself.

flat sole pumas for squats, bare foot for deads!

i dont want to go and buy a pair of poofy lifting shoes and end up looking like MDF, so please dont suggest that!

its still sore but i think it will be ok in a week or two with a session of physio.

I agree, with any injury there is a deal of spinal reflex changes that may occur, my bet is the muscle spindle, and the golgi tendon organ are responding to excessive forces around the joint, probably due to incorrect biomechanics and joint flexibility for the movement you were doing with the load that you had, in the range that you completed.

What does this mean? Just need to retrain the proprioceptive systems, retrain the cerebellar centre, and optimize function, this is the best way to prevent reccurent injury... Physio Rules!
