Good Morning?

Postby upright on Wed Feb 27, 2008 10:30 pm

I'm noticing a bit of an ache in in the lower back tonight... Was doing SLDLs as part of me high rep routine earlier and a dull ache has set in as the night goes on - never had DOMS of the back before... Form did slip on the last few reps but no obvious point of injury

Anyways - I was thinking of swapping out SLDLs for good mornings next leg day - Friday. Any opinions on this - I've checked it out and they seem to work the same group - hams and lower back, I'm hoping they'd put more emphasis on the hams. Obviously if I'm paralysed I won't be doing anything involving the back too much or on the flipside I'll be business as usual should the ache subside. So, Good Mornings - "No they're gay" or temporarily OK?

I have problem with bar placement with them, i find it rolls a little at the bottom of the exercise which i find uncomfortable.. might just be me being crap at them tho :)

Good morning are good, added them to my leg routine several weeks ago.As long as you keep strict form you shouldnt get any problems with lower back(i have a dodgy back already).

Cheers guys - will watch the rolling bar and form. Been viewing a couple of vids so I'll have a bash before I start and watch my form. gonna sling out BOR on upper tomorrow - do upright instead - give the lower back a rest.

They're a risky exercise dude - Bruce Lee's acting career was over when he injured himself doing good mornings. Why not give Romanian Deads a shot? The form's a lot easier to master than SLDLs and they're a lot less likely to recruit the lower back :)

Good mornings will help you improve your squats, RDL's will help you improve your deadlifts.

I personally don't like GM's but have been considering them for my new routine for the above reason. I think this exercise is better kept in the 8-12 rep range maybe? I certainly wouldn't like to do this exercise with a weight so heavy I could only manage 3-5 reps! James Copping certainly rates them though and I'd say he knows his shit better than me ;)

RDL's, once mastered are a simply awesome exercise and you can really start moving some serious weight, much more than GM's and much safer too. Son of a bitch to learn though.

it probably has a llot to do wiht your proportions whether SLDL or GM's hit your hams the best.

im 6 foot with 32" legs....good mornings dont to jack for my hams although sldl work them a treat.

it would be interesting to see what peoples size etc is when stating what works best for them
