Absolute monster.

Does no one comment in the gym when you move weight like that, or are they too scared? Have you ever thought about competing?

Amazing weight there Rogue and something to aim for

In all seriousness I'm making it my goal to Bench 1x200kg this year.

Impressive dips as well.

I prefer parallel bars to be honest. Benches too padded to do good bench dips.

Of course no one comments! Probably because he's using all of the weight so no one else can train.

I did compete with BDFPA. Won a few titles. Nerves always stopped me lifting to my best. I used to train with a guy called Mark Robinson (nobody famous), he suggested having a go at powerlifting or strongman but I never got round to it.
One morning I was awoken with the news he had died in a motorcyle accident when the exhaust of a car fell off and he hit it and then a wall. The funeral was a family affair and I couldnt go, so I decided to show my respect by competing as he had always asked.
I joined BDFPA as I iked their stance on non drug use and entered a competition. The total allowed me to enter the British Champs, which I won, which in turn entered me for the euros, which I won. I went to the worlds but nerves got me and I came 3rd. I went through the same process the following year ending in winning the worlds in Atlanta. Unfortunately the following season I hurt my knee and couldnt make the qualifiers so missed that year. Last year I couldnt compete due to work comitments. Now Im torn between competing again in powerlifting or having a go at strongman. Still undecided.

You are a World Champion!

Fuck me mate MP should sponsor you!

As a hasbeen mate can I just say that if you're still fit never retire as it's the worst thing... If you can compete again at that level, do it.

well, the pyramid system works for me. I always go for a 1rep max each session. It also would depend on where you are struggling. If its at the push from the chest then I would recomend pausing the weight on your chest for a set or two (powerlifing style) and add a set with your feet on the bench, great for balance! If its the last part of the bench then dips. Also a technique used by some is to try to snap the bar by pulling your hands apart. Sounds daft but people swear by it! Dont neglect the work that delts play. My shoulders are one of my strongest parts and they help.

I am in no way an expert. It may be a simple change such as moving your grip in or out slightly. get someone to take a pic of you holding the bar at the top and bottom of the movement. You might find your too narrow. If you have a hammer strength bench machine they are very good at building the explosive off the chest push, and they are safe!
Hope this helps. Like I say im no expert and am not embarrased to be corrected

Thanks for that :)

I struggle a few inches of the chest which is where most people stick i think? I've put some dips in there recently, hopefully as they improve my bench will. I've heard that 'pulling the bar apart' tip before. Its meant to activate the triceps more i believe. I feel my programme has got everything in place for pushing my bench up.Ive just got to accept my bench is poor and put in the work rather than avoid it...
