Body Armour

Trying to decide on which to get.

Either the standard which is just shoulders:

Or the full shoulders, chest, kidneys and biceps one which may be a little more restrictive:

I'd go with shoulders only... the kidney protection could lead you into some bad habits when taking tackles and would defo be more restrictive.

Plus I don't think you're gay

Heh, this is true.

The kidney one I was thinking more for protection on Rucks and the Bicep padding for wrapping the arm in a tackle.

Yeah, I can see how it could help with confidence. What do most pro's wear nowadays?

I think a mix of both but the southern hemi teams and Super 14's seem to wear the full protection more than the nothern hemi teams.

Possibly a bit excessive though if I'm playing at 10 or 12.

This is the body armour I use:

A bit OTT for your purposes maybe, plus I'm not sure they make a size that'll fit over your novelty oversized arms...

Which type of body armour would most reassure your missus you are less likely to be mashed.

Lol, probably neither.

I'll await Sir's verdict which may consist of no armour at all...

When I played last season I wore that same Canterbury armour, good bit of kit, fits really well and doesn't have stupidly large padding bits. Also really like the hexagon pattern, feels less rigid that others that I've tried in the past. I only wore the shoulder one, playing out on the wing or at fullback - didn't want to look like Bryan Habana now did I (and no, I'm not as fast as him. bugger *edit: or as big*)

I'd just go for shoulder if you're playing at 5/8ths, lots of distribution, wanna be as free moving as possible. Add in that you're already a big guy, wouldn't say you "needed" the extra support as such.

And what's this about ruck protection, come watch a game in Cornwall of our (failing) home town. If you see the 10 or 12 in a ruck all match I'll eat my armour.

Heh, depends on the teams playing. I tend to get stuck into rucks at times if the going is narrow.

Whats the sizing like? I wear XL for compression so guessing it's similar for the armour?

I suggest going to town in a pair of cutoff jeans and a wifebeater.

Yeah, I reckon XL would be about right. The scrum half at uni wore a medium before and it jumped around on him terribly. He was about 11st soaking wet at 5ft 9. I wore a medium and was pretty damn tight, and slightly small on the shoulders...From your pics in the gallery, your shoulders might even make 2XL worthwhile... I'm not too experienced when it comes to choosing those sizes so can't advise haha.

That site has it for £30, which is £10 less than I paid, but I dno, maybe you can get it cheaper?

I got it from pro rugby in the end as they had other bits I was after - some markers and a ladder. Went for XL.

Also got new boots on the cheap :)

My nickname was "The Tank".

They used to chant "Tank, Tank, Thank" etc., as I got the ball and ran over people.

I miss those days, the only chants I now get are "Big Issue Sir, help the homeless" as I go shopping in Kingston

No can do Charlotte's out with Jo and I'm babysitting all fucking day!

I'll get to the gym for 8am then straight back home, but call me when you're done as I might take Alexander out, so if you're in the area we could meet up and you can see little Alex! (No, not your cock.... my Son!)
