Cheers Simon. It's basically something Scott put together for me in another thread, but a few little tweaks here and there.

lol no I didn't pay for his advice. I don't think I'd ever pay for some thing like that, unless I was going to compete and needed someone to help me with contest prep.

21/05/10 PM

Deadlift, 120s rest
100kg x 8
100kg x 6
100kg x 8 (switched to mixed grip)

30 Degree Incline DB Press, 90s rest
36kg x 10
36kg x 10
36kg x 9

Wide Grip Pullups
, 90s rest
BW x 10
BW x 10
BW x 9

V-Bar Pushdowns, 60s rest
32.5 x 10
32.5 x 8
32.5 x 8

BB Curls, 60s rest
30kg x 10
30kg x 10
30kg x 10

Calf Press, 60s rest
120 x 15
120 x 15
120 x 15

Overall, a decent workout. Generally, I sweat really bad and it being so hot makes matters worse. My hands get really wet and this makes deads and pullups hard. With pullups, I was literally slipping off the grips, as they're made from a rubbery material. Really pissed off I didn't get the 10th rep on final set of DB presses, next time I will. I also sub'ed dips for pushdowns as I can't add weight to dips for the time being.

Don't think Scott advocated a full blown alkaline diet for those who train but he did apply it further than most for himself but as he holds less mass this would be more feasible - if he were say in the 80kg and above range then perhaps he would be pressed into being a little less alkaline based as his protein needs would be a little higher.

I still think there are benefits of being alkaline and that training individuals can take and use elements which in turn could benefit their own physique and general health/well being but choosing to go fully alkaline just wouldn't be practical for holding onto a decent amount of muscle mass. For those that do not train or are engaged in sport that doesn't rely on putting on and retaining muscle mass then being very alkaline is probably a good option for them.

I don't really know much about the alkaline stuff, so can't say too much... But I find I'm feeling pretty good just eating well so I personally don't worry about it too much. Having said that, I want to be as honest as possible in this journal, so I will say that I got rat faced last night and am a little hinger over today. Off to the gym shortly to sweat it out with fasted cardio, as I just woke up...

Guys, on the subject of alkaline-acid balance and diet have been doing a fair bit of research since Scott bought all this stuff up... am still not convinced that all the health benefits from an alkaline diet are entirely due to alkalinity, as the diet is also one loaded in health promoting phytonutrients and is by all measures a very healthy diet in general, but there are one or two definite positives.

the main one is that high acid load diets definitely cause bone mineralization problems by leeching excessive calcium from the bones to use to buffer blood pH. As a secondary effect of this the kidneys get overloaded having to eventually clear the excess calcium from the blood and you get an increased risk of kidney stones.

This is all well documented in studies done on epileptics who are put on high protein/low carb and ketogenic diets to control the epilepsy... children whose bones are still developing who go on these diets for more than three months are something like three hundred times more likely to develop the above issues as well as increased incidences of stunted skeletal growth. For adults the risks are lower than for kids, but still much higher than on a balanced diet, and the effects may not show themselves fully until old age.

Acidic diets not as extreme as very low carb and keto diets reduce the risk slightly again but there still is a degree of elevated risk. There may well be other issues too but the links are not yet quite so scientifically solid. I don't think alakalization is anything to obsess about, but I do think it's worth a little consideration.

TBH i noticed feck all change in anything from being high in red meat etc to being much lower in that, much higher in white fish and poultry and eating about 10x more veg due to the diet and me offseason being lasy with veg.

The only thing i have noticed is that im slightly allergic to milk.

Its al a load of shite from what you can "feel" and "see" in the short to medium term at least.

I think any benefits are long term and subtle... noticeable changes in 'how you feel' are always either gonna be related to hormonal changes or psychological ones, neither of which alakization does really. When you know you are doing something that's more healthy that you were before it can effect you positively in a purely psychological way, but it can be too easy to put that down to an actual physical effect of the diet or whatever it is you've changed.

I've taken a subtle approach to this over the past 6-12 months and it's now that I'm starting to notice an overall improvement in how I feel and well being. Training is less affected by things like how I've eaten through the day or previous day and how tired I'm feeling etc.

24/05/10 PM

Squats , 120s rest
105kg x 8
105kg x 8
105kg x 8

Flat Bench, 90s rest
80kg x 10
80kg x 10
80kg x 8

Single Arm Iso Row, 90s rest
50kg x 8
50kg x 8
50kg x 8

DB Shoulder Press
, 90s rest
30kg x 8
30kg x 8
30kg x 8

Lateral Raises, 60s rest
10kg x 8
10kg x 8
10kg x 8

Squats felt really strong and I'm certain I had more reps in all 3 sets, but there are probably only a handful of members I'd trust to spot me whilst squatting and none of them were there, so I thought best to play it safe. Happy, but not over the moon, with every thing else. Cardio to come later...

Not a bad session although I'd expect a bigger bench maybe looking at your Shoulder strength.

Ditch the Laterals though for something more worth while IMO.

Bench has been a lot better but I'm gaining my strength back well I feel. Keeping a log has really helped me try and move forward, rather than just treading water.

What would you suggest instead of the laterals?
