barbell floor presses?

Postby kp1512 on Tue Mar 16, 2010 7:13 pm

Anyone done these?

You put a barbell on the floor beside you, lie down next to it and row with it with your back to the floor? like floor presses but with the barbell?

I've just been reading up on these, you can also do this with dumbells, so I might give it a go and see what I think.

Have you heard of youtube Capes?

Lie on the floor, press a barbell, it's pretty simple.

Lay down and have the BB behind your head. Grip the BB just inside Shoulder width and roll over your head and then press it up with the slight momentum. Otherwise use DB's and take a hammer grip.

Or place yourself with the hips under the barbell and use a hip thrust to get the bar in position for the press.

I just lie down in between the squat rack and do them off the squat racks rails. Luckily i've got lanky enough arms to unrack the bar.

Don’t let the sets last much longer than ten seconds, total. Kinda like sex with a hot chick, hit it hard for ten seconds.

I use the powerrack, but if you don't have access to one you gotta be creative.

I'd agree it's a great exercise - although no idea why pressing from the floor makes so much difference compared to doing it from a bench, but it certainly seems to.

Medium-close grip for me and usually with an EZ bar.
