Pre-WO shake

Postby Karlos on Thu Nov 19, 2009 12:19 pm

Im currently out of my reloaded amino mix which i usually have during my sessions, and i'm thinking i'll wait until the new year to re-order. Having to spend my pennies on damn presents...

So i think i'll give the pre-wo shake a blast, rather than have nothing. Would a shake consisting of-
60g wpc
60-100g WMS
Him salts

Sipped throughout be a good idea? These are the only ingredients i've got in stock. I've never really done the whole pre/during shake thing, usually just go for the amino's.

I would stick to the lower end of 60g for WMS but thats me personally.

Oh well, i had 60g wms and 60g wpc. I felt ok, but i definitely didn't get in the zone the way i usually do. I was just far too relaxed, not tired, just not fired. :) The shake had the same effect on me as when i have a carb shake pwo - it kills the energetic buzz feeling and puts me into a more relaxed state.

Maybe the carbs suppressed the stress hormones (namely adrenaline & cortisol) which normally get me going? Maybe it was the tryptophan. i don't think it was blood sugar issues as i didn't feel lethargic. I tried it and it wasn't for me, probably cause i'm a low carber. So i think i'll just go with nothing preWO apart from some food 2 hours before.

I guess it's what you get used to.

I find I train better with Amino's and Carbs pre and during rather than WPC and Carbs and I don't bother with any stims at all now apart from Beta Alanine. Very simple but effective enough.

That's a good point. Maybe it's just the change my body didn't appreciate. I didn't get any stimulatory effects from BA? Just the tingles.

BA is a funny one and I've noticed that it's effects tend to work better if the digestion process is kept to a minimum through training - so more pronounced when using Amino Acids pre and during as opposed to say WPC.

Style or type of training will also make a difference to it's effectiveness and as your training is generally lower volume and less likely to generate Lactic Acid build up you're not going to see as much benefit from BA's blood PH buffering unlike myself where I'm mainly sitting in the 10-12 rep range.

Yeah, the ergogenic of BA is really limited only to training which is anaerobic and well into the lactate/glycogen burning zone - so mid-high rep in respect of weight training.
