Ill

Postby GymBunny on Mon Jun 08, 2009 12:24 pm

Ok so I've picked up a throat/chest infection while at my conference. Doc says the smoke from the bonfire has irritated the lining of my lungs, meaning there was some nasty stuff on the wood.

My entire body hurts, including my eyeballs and I have the appetite of an anorexic grandmother.

However, I must go to work all week, and have been here since 8. Any suggestions on what I can attempt to force myself to eat so I don't pass out. I've managed 10 strawberries and 1/2 a mango so far today but have already developed the shakes.

And yes, I know I'm being pathetic.

Drinking hot water with lemon and honey seems to be about the maximum I can stomach.

Avocados? Nutritionally dense and some healthy fats instead of just sugar.

What's the deal with this forum? I realise it's aimed at h4ni, any objections if we chip in? Your photo seems to be looking at me disapprovingly. :D

:ugeek: the vet is in.
get yourself some proper ice cream: it'll soothe your throat, and if you choose well you'll even get decent nutritional value.
keep drinking juices and/or water, that'll help as well.

My mum always said honey and glycerine for a sore throat :)

Chop up some fresh ginger, pour on boiling water, let it stew then drink as a tea. Do so several times a day. Is a Chinese medicine thing and works a treat for URT infections and sore throats.

Sorry GB, I must've missed this post. Hopefully you are better now. But I'll post away anyhow.

Yeah, warm lemon is a great one. Wouldn't bother with the honey though. The sugar will just fed the bacteria.

Keep water intake high. Best with greens and some good salt in it.

Try to stick to easy to eat vegetables. Avocados, as Rorschach said, are great. Easy to eat and slip down nicely. Lots of good stuff in them and alkalising too.

Salads are easy and nutritious: finely chopped spinach/watercress etc with olive oil and lemon juice. If you can add some chopped nuts that will also help. Walnuts, flaked almonds. Also, some pumpkin seeds are good. Make it a nice crunchy salad. As long as it doesn't irritate your throat.

Buckwheat pasta/noodles are also easy to eat with a dodgy throat.
