Pingu's Journey

Postby Pingu on Fri Jan 09, 2009 12:22 am

Hi all!!

I've posted an introduction thread in the relevant section!!!

I started weight training at the beginning of December 2008 so am definitely new to this!!! So forgive the stupid questions I WILL ask!

Am currently working on the following:

Sunday - Legs, Back & Biceps, Torso Twist +CV
Monday - Chest, Shoulders & Triceps +CV
Tuesday - Off
Wednesday - Legs, Back & Biceps, Torso Twist +CV
Thursday - Chest, Shoulders & Triceps
Friday - Off
Saturday - Off

In the "Off" days I fit in Abs exercises at home. I will need to concentrate more on this in the future but am happy with how I am doing it for now. I also swim on a Saturday with my long distance club when I can bring myself to bore myself in the pool.

Depending on what is going on in my life at the time, if anything in my programme needs sacrificing it is the CV at the moment, although I will not go below 1 session a week no matter what.

Below are my last two training logs so you can see where I'm at, and where I started from on 7 December!!! I've put the URLs in because I am struggling getting the capture right. I have a spreadsheet and am trying to copy it into a jpeg and IMG it here but it keeps cutting half of it off....any advice on the correct procedure and dimensions please? My photos worked ok but I just can't get this to work...

Note - I am in love with Squats!!!!!! They are simply the best thing ever!!!!!!

WEDNESDAY 7 JANUARY 2009

So here we go with the log guys!!! Can't wait to learn from you all...wanna keep taking the next steps, don't like hanging around!!!

Why are Chavs like slinkies? They have no real use but it's great to watch one fall down a flight of stairs.

At the moment my goals are to shed the excess fat. I want to be at 20% by my 31st birhday in March (got 4.5% to go) and will re-evaluate then.

As far as the weight training goes, at the moment it is just to continue improving my strength and muscle tone as much as I can whilst losing fat. Once I am at the BF I want I'm not sure... depends. I don't ever want to build a lot of muscle (don't want to be a female bodybuilder) but may look at possibly going down a figure competitor type route...although probably not actually competing because I doubt I could do that and my open water swimming.

But how can you not love them?!!!! Nothing like the rawness of them. And the satisfaction of squeezing out that last rep that makes your entire body scream at you... oh yeah.

Besides, my upper body strength is pants so gotta get some satisfaction from somewhere!

I haven't yet Simon. This is my very first programme!!! Am going to mention to Stan (my "trainer") about DLs and will mention front squats....don't want to lose them! :P

I do have to be a bit careful about how the arms are used in what I do, some things I physically can't do as my left arm is seriously wonky and the ulna nerve is shot to hell after a major injury at 10 years old, but I will give anything a go!!! Although having said that I have halved my arthritis/nerve pain medication in the month I have been weight training so am hoping the only problem I am left with will be the fact it doesn't have a full range of movement.

I would like to try DLs, they look like fun!!!!

Pingu

Have you tried any rotator cuff exercises? I've had one total and one partial shoulder rebuild and the RC work has helped.

I must admit I haven't. It may do me good actually. I ended up with serious shoulder impingement and tendonitis this swim season and RC exercises could help actually. I do notice my shoulder strength isn't as good as it should be/want it to be.

What exercises are you thinking of?

Another mischeivous woman on the forums?! Oh dear lord this'll be fun!

I would actually be interested in the RC exercises that Si has to recommend as I have had a history of shoulder problems myself.

Just tell him (her) to bugger off and point in the direction of some boxes that need moving :)
