I've used it for the past 18 months.

I actually like the taste, but that's cos I don't like sweet things much any more so it doesn't bother me... plus I'm weird lol

Some of my clients use it and apart from one who detested it, all have been ok with it. But they also use brown rice protein that I get them to mix it with (50:50). That def helps the taste and results in a better consistency (better than rice protein on it's own too). And for some carbs I take it with rice milk. A little sweetness that def helps most people.

If you look at the amino acid profile, then a combo of pea & rice protein is almost the same as whey ;)

I'd love to see BSD sell a pea & rice protein combo :D
Just a 50:50 ratio is fine.

^^ ditto

I mix em with homemade smoothie and a little palatinose.

Probably will never return to whey / casein as a regular protein source.

I haven't had whey (and certainly not casein) once in 18 months. I'm not wasting away nor am I losing any strength :D

btw the China study showed that casein is very bad for us.

I've looked better without using whey and just solids but prob lost a touch of size due to cal deficit. I only use minimal amounts now anyway so no biggie. Only issue I have with other sources like Pean and Hemp is that you end up using sugary liquids like rice milk to null the taste.

a study has also shown that it is dangerous for sharks to swim anywhere near the fcukers, and tigers should give charlie a wide berth too

i really cannot see one study changing nutritional pharmacology- did they dig down enough if they was a diff between casein and hydrolysed casein etc?

i just have to give my little girl some milk product and watch her react to see how shit it is- thats why the little madam is forever guzzling goats milk- still not the best but far easier digestable.

i was watching a program on dolphins last night- apparent dolphin milk is 30 times more cocnentrated that breast milk- no wonder they grow like wildfire!! (they still have to make a conscious effort to breath though :D )

We do give our son a dairy based formula 50% of the the; has low casein levels. 50% of the time he gets a Goat based formula.

I thought this was a decent read: http://www.vegsource.com/news/2010/07/c ... inger.html

I''ve also given up using whey (haven't done for a couple of months now) and similarly have had no loss in strength.

In fact I'm not using any supplements any more other than EAAs, a multivit, fish oil, zinc & mag.

Oats are gluten free. BUT they almost always get transported in containers/lorries etc that have also contained wheat etc, thus cross-contamination with gluten occurs. So, I'd go for rice. But oat milk is quite nice actually.

I have no doubt food is significantly better than whey etc, but i have 1 shake a day simply for convenience. If i'm at uni all day i'll take a salmon salad and a shake. I'll drink the shake whilst eating mixed nuts, thus slowing absorption slightly and getting some fats in. If i didn't do this it would mean preparing and lugging two meals around with me. And lets face it shake > nothing/anything you can buy in most canteens or shops at a reasonable price....

I'd be willing to try pea/rice prote for a while if it tasted ok and price was ok.

^^ yeah, I try not to have too much protein powder except around training times. Although I do have hemp once or twice a day with a meal, just as it allows me to get some protein in via a good healthy source. As I rarely eat animal protein any more it is trickier getting my desired protein levels in.

As I say some people will hate the pea and some won't mind it. Generally (although of course not always true) I've found that those people that eat a large variety of foods with a heavy emphasis on vegetables (and esp raw foods in general) tend to be ok with it.

It is def a better taste and consistency when pea & rice are mixed together. Add in some cinnamon and you're sorted. Vanilla goes well with it too, but that's expensive shit to get the proper stuff.

Scott, how do you find the expense of them both? Presume you use Brown Rice and Pea Isolate?

I get about 2/3rd of my dily protein from pea/rice and it has had no negative effect whatsoever. Basically have it at work and big chunk of meat or fish at night.

My digestion is much better from doing this.

^^ Similar, except for the meat. Quinoa, nuts, beans/legumes are decent protein sources too so don't forget to factor them in if you eat them.

@Alex: Pea (yes, the isolate) is same as whey protein cost wise. Brown rice is £50 for 5kg, so a bit more. But I save money cos I don't buy meat any more.

Pretty much the costings I've seen.

Decent sources for quality?

the pea from the other two big bulk suppliers seems to be the same to me. You can only get rice from the one which sells peptopro. The rice is the top of the range shizzle for sure (ozratein (sp)

Its a lighter colour and better texture and less sticky. Gillian mcKeith would be proud. Im using both pysilium and pectin with it mixed with homemade smoothie so a great combo for regularity.

Yes I take a full suite of vitamins and minerals ;)

Yes, number 2s are much better than they were.

Here's a couple of number 2 rhymes:

"shit shouldn't stink, shit shouldn't sink"

"a foot long floater with no odour"

lol but tbh that is what you are aiming for.

I'll post my current vit & mineral protocol soon; maybe in the supps forum.

I would like to include some more veg protein in my diet. Tried some hemp protein but that taste was pure evil to me and I gulped CEE, GTE and the likes with no problem :( Currently I'm not taking whey alone, always a mix of whey and milk protein and try to get the veg protein from beans, quinoa and seitan. Multivitamin and minerals are 2 from Biovea, Antioxidant Complex and Lutein Plus, I cycle them. Occasionally I add some magnesium at night. Then some fish oils and vitamin C during training.
All that I say is hypothetically speaking and I do not condone the use of illegal substances. You should also eat your vegetables and use high SPF sunscreen
