Neti Pot - nasal rinsing

Postby Bison on Sun Feb 14, 2010 1:23 am

Not really sure what section this should go into tbh...?

Does anyone else do this?

I've been doing it for about 3 months now, using a stainless steel neti pot (easiest to keep clean) and neti salt and I have to say it's fantastic. Over the years I've seen thousands of claims from hundreds of supplements in regards to health benefits but it's a low percentage of these claims that you can actually ever feel the benefits.

For under £20 I bought the pot and a years supply of neti sea salts and the benefits are clearly felt.

The link below is a decent introduction and the one pictured is the exact same as the one I've been using. The benefits of Jala Neti | Change your thoughts

First time is a little strange but after that it's actually quite enjoyable once you get the salt to water mixture correct. You can't even tell there's water up your nose at all! Over the years I've followed a crazy amount of idea's and dietry practice's lol :) I can count on my fingers of one hand the number my wife has ever followed... along with organic greens, fish oils and psylium husks this is the only other one.

I'd recommend it, especially to anyone who's ever had any kind of sinnus trouble but even those that haven't. A good addition to healthy lifestyle and it literally takes 2 minutes a day.

I've got a neti pot

Haven't used it in a while, but yes I agree it is really cleansing. I bought the thing at a time I was practising some meditation exercises and also doing some running, and the surprise bonus was just how much of a difference clearer sinuses do make a difference when running/breathing hard.

There's Sutra Neti as well as Jala:

Yeah, I've known about this for a while. Just never got round to buying one and using it. Bizarrely just the other day I was looking at getting one. Nice to hear that someone else here uses it and with positive results. I've been having some nasal issues over the past 6 months so will now def get myself one.

Cheers Bison.

EDIT: can u post a link to the one you bought Bison?

I can highly recommend these:

Stainless Steel Neti Pot - ShopNeti... UK's leading Neti Equipment Suppliers

The stainless steel pot isn't easily damaged and can be sterilized easily. I'd recommend this over the ceramic or plastic versions.

Neti Salt & Wash - ShopNeti... UK's leading Neti Equipment Suppliers

I'm sure you don't need telling how bad table salt is, don't use that! Can recommend the neti salt makes a perfect saline solution :)

Yeah it's supposed to really help with meditation. Agreed about the difference in breathing, just feels like you can get more oxygen into the lungs. Before I used to breathe through my mouth a lot which isn't a good thing as unfiltered air enters your lungs.

That Sutra Neti is bit much for me, couldn't imgaine trying to do that on a Monday morning  That's the best thing about the neti pot, I just have it in the kitchen and have a quick 60 sec rinse before setting off for work, easy.

No worries :)

Every morning I have a glass with this mixture:

Squeeze 1 whole lemon juice,
teaspoon honey
cinnamon
2g Organic Greens
5g Organic Wheatgrass
2g Psyllium Husks
300mg-500mg Rhodiola Rosea

I'll drink that then mix up the Neti pot:

500ml water
1/2 tspoon Neti sea salt (him salt just as good - maybe even better?)
1/4 tspoon sodium bicarb

Very refreshing way to start the day :)

I don't think they do one, not that I can see anyway. If you find they do, let me know and I'll pass it on :)

Nice way to start the day. Do you eat solid food some time after that?

Hmm, going to have a quick look see if I can find any codes...

Very much depends how busy my morning is at work. Sometimes I'll have a either a chicken sandwich or chicken salad but the time can vary anywhere from 30 mins - 2 hours later.

Why do you ask?

Just looked and it seems you have to setup an affiliate scheme manually. I've set mine as Gazg21... not sure if that will work or do anything though as it says "awaiting approval"

My best mate has to do this daily following a sinus operation. He says he's going to carry on as he finds it so satisfying.

Got the pot today and just used it. I must say that it's easier than I thought.

Also, I does feel great afterwards. I had a little seepage from my eyes, which makes sense. And now my eyes feel amazing! Honest, it's a weird feeling. I kinda feel more energised lol

Def gonna keep at this and see if it helps my recent nasal issues (kind of like spots and inflammation on the inside of my nose that flares up once every 2 weeks or so; very odd). And also if it helps my snoring; which I seem to have developed in the past year or so according to my wife.

Cheers for the prompt Bison 8-)

Good isn't it? If a little weird first time :)

How did you go with your first saline mix? I got it wrong first few times and it gave me a burning sensation but I've got it nailed now... honestly can't tell there's any water up my nose. Getting the temp just right helps aswell.

I have a Himalayan sole solution that I use everyday (first drink is 300ml of warm water with 1/2 lemon juice plus teaspoon of sole). So, I checked on teh web and basically it's 1 teaspoon of sole per 200ml of water. I added 2 teaspoons into the 400ml of water. 3/4 filtered alkaline water (filled to level just above the nut surrounding the spout entrance) plus 1/4 boiled filtered alkaline water to produce the perfect temp.

Sounds similair to when I was a regular diver. Always had a good old snot full of seawater & it sure clears the nasal passages.
