Net Nitrogen Utilization

An interesting area that I am sure will be getting more popular soon - but in a nutshell what do you think about these statements

whey protein alone which yields a NNU of only 12%! Most of today's leading protein powders offer 17 grams of whey
protein per serving. However, the NNU is only 2.04 grams. That means that only 2.04 grams of the 17 grams will be utilized by your body.

One thing that made me think was what is the NNU of Fish, Chicken, Beef and Whey/Milk Proteins?

Is this why some people take less protein but get more results as the source they use has a higher NNU?

Is this NNU nonsense

iS the newer PDCAA method of rating Protiens really better?

As I've not noticed any negative impact from swapping Whey to Amino's and more whole food sources perhaps there is something in it?

Do you know what is it about Whey specifically that yields such a low amount?

I would say whey is comparable to whole food sources of protein!- Only differences is it's powdered. Sure i wouldn't have it for more than 1-2 meals aday, but i wouldn't do that with any other protein source either.

TBH alex, as long as your cals and protein are still adequate i wouldn't expect you to see any negative effects.

As you say it would be interesting to see the supposed NNU of other foods, as imo it wouldn't be dramatically different.

Well all I know is what the studies say... you know, all the millions of studies measuring endocrine responses & protein synthesis responses to different PWO protocols? They all show whey (and casien) to be effective in a way which is similar accross all experiments. Now I doubt all these experiments used exactly the same whey, yet differences between the results are marginal enough not to really be considered significant.

So while I'm sure there are differences in nutrient availability I don't think it's a big deal.... the more relevant difference is speed of utilization (hydrosylate vs concentrate etc) and insulin response.

Well if they used the stuff from H&B "Body Fartress" then that would definately sound about right
