Muscle Pull Whilst Running

Postby Alex on Sun Sep 14, 2008 11:52 am

I've noticed a reocurring muscle ache or maybe a pull after playing rugby and training which seems to be in my right inner thigh and is possibly either Adductor Brevis and/or Pectinius. Also I notice that if I'm sitting and extend my leg the tightness move around to the front upper portion of the leg which could be Rectus Femoris?

I'm warming up sufficiently, around 30 mins worth before any running/sprinting and initially assumed it was simply due to being away for so long but now I wonder whether it may be more a slight pull than just DOM type pain.

It felt tight through most of the game on Saturday but did really hinder me and did disappear as the game went on.

Its soo easy to end up with little puls and tears when doing sprints and all that. It sounds like one of those ones that will not go away and maybe get worse unles you get it seen to Alex. Physion for a wee session just now might be the cheaper option!

I agree with Rab.

Get it looked at and curtail some of your cardio work. You can't train like it's pre season during the season or you'll kill yourself.

Also, get some deep heat on it.

I'll ask someone to have a look on Wednesdays training.

It has loosened a little through this morning and I'll be walking around Guildford later so may help.

I guess I'll have to train Legs a little lighter tomorrow :(

Never that high up.

I can in my Quads sometimes. If I stand up straight and arch my upper body backwards I start to feel the tightness there. what I have noticed is that my hip can click on that side as well from any form of leg raise.

Do you do Split Squats?

If not, I think you should add them to your legs routine. But only after getting someone to look at the pulled muscle and surrounding area.

Apart from the benefit that Split Squats give you in VMO strengthen they also stretch the hip flexors simply by doing the exercise so that would to me seem like a good thing to start doing.

I was but haven't within the last 3-4 weeks but I'll add them in once I'm checked over.

Hip Flexor Cable Raises were the other exercise I was doing.

There's an ankle strap that you can attach to a cable station and then raise up knees as high as possible so movement comes from the hip, not foot.

oh right, one of those lady exercises... is the strap pink? :P

Forget them dude, got on with the Splits Squats. Maybe try them with rear foot raised (aka Bulgarian Split Squats).

No but I'm sure I can get you one...

I'll go with Splits first for a couple of weeks and then try Bulgarian's. What do you find the best way to raise the foot? Bench or Smith Machine Bar droppped low?

Bench is too high to start with. Try a Rbk step block. 6-8" is fine (oo-er).
