Multi mineral & B complex. Is it really that important?

Postby Oggy on Fri Sep 18, 2009 2:12 pm

In Scotts nutritional plan he says that without a good quality multi mineral & B-complex it is that much harder getting leaner and stronger.

I didn't think multi's were that important as long as one gets enough good quality nutrition. So do us athletic peeps really need to supplement with multi's if your diet is good? Also I thought that getting most of your vits through natural food is a much healthier option as they are better absorbed plus synthetic vits can't be too healthy and probably acidic forming.

I have just bought all the other supplements Scott recommended but the health food shop never had what Scott recommended to buy for the multi's.

That genuinely doesn't make any sense, aside from having some severe deficiency there is no way taking a multi-vit makes it any easier to get lean or stronger.

Multiminerals are more important for most people.

It's difficult to get enough calcium unless you eat dairy, for example (I don't). Magnesium is another one that's difficult to get from dietary sources alone.

I'd say it's optimal, if not strictly necessary, to use a multi-mineral. Magnesium supplementation is very worthwhile though.

Personally I'd say no and I haven't bothered supplementing with a multi for quite a while now. I think the cheaper versions most people use could even do more harm than good, so if you're going to use one then make sure it's of high quality. Problem is these are expensive.... for the money I'd much rather spend it on some higher quality meat, fruit, veg, etc.

You can't get all the minerals needed through good food choices in 2009. Just not in our veg unfortunately.

B vits are there to ensure you are fully topped up. Same with minerals.

In my book it's an insurance policy to make sure you are getting all you need.

Your choice of course. The two I recommend are powdered capsules and the best I've ever used.

Just taking a multi mineral / b-complex will not make you suddenly stronger. But it will help overall health and that will ultimately help recovery, and thus strength & fitness. Such minerals are also needed to support your body's detoxification phases that will be hit hard with getting leaner. And for it's a huge hit cos you're on AAS...

It's a tricky one. At the end of the day, if you honestly cannot afford supps you're better off spending the money on good food.

^^ agree.

imo a good multi mineral & b-complex comes first before protein & AAS etc. Then fish oil. Then sports training supps.

There's very very few people who eat enough veg & fruit and good foods (and avoiding bad foods to negate all the good foods) that can do without a multi-mineral etc. I still use one and would still recommend those people use it too.

No brainer imo.

BUT it has to be a good quality one. 99% of then are shit. I only use powdered capsule ones now for example. And I check the types of the minerals (chelates) and b vits.

... but you're not gonna die with them.

Scotts plan is an alkalizing diet which naturally helps build up calcium and magnesium stores. Funny thing is dairy products like milk that have calcium are acid forming so dairy is counter productive if using to get your calcium.

You don't absorb much calcium from milk anyway apparently. Don't get me started on milk
