Leaning Side Laterals

So Ive added these again to my shoulder routine as I cant done Shoulder Press all out every workout and must say..totally awesome!.

Been doing alot of messing about and testing with it...and found that

Use something upright and rigid - smith bar \ squat bar \ fixed machine - grip with firmly

Lean in the opposite direct with feet either together or one slightly in front of the other

With the dumbell in the other hand, start your lateral, as you come up lean slightly and flex your lower back; you will find that you can stimular and recuit all three heads of the shoulder (probably more so in the lateral delts)

NOTE : You need to lean towards the side your working, not the other way round.

Woke up this morning with some really nice capped doms on the delts! Used a 14k dumbell and it felt awesome! This ones a keeper again

I do variations on this. Leaning in, leaning out or just free standing which I do currently. Definately a keeper whichever variation you choose.

Yeh I was a big believer in simultaneous standing laterals..and I did get upto, what I called sick weights before.

Seated were also a bread and butter...but ill see where this one takes me to......never been a fan of Cable Laterals mind you......but i know others swear by them...doesnt Simon do them?

Simon loves them but I don't feel them as well as DB's.

I like the fact that with these you're changing the whole strength curve of the exercise, so there's more overload at the ROM where you're stronger than when compared to regular standing laterals. Also it's a uni-lateral movement which means greater force output. I think I'll substitute these for incline laterals tomorrow......glad you started this thread now! :)

Funny cos I added this into my workout about 2 weeks ago. And they really are very good indeed :D

Try raising them up as fast as possible, then controlling them on the way down for about 3-4secs. If that means the weight has to be reduced then so be it. The eccentric portion is the bit that does all the good damage

Quite right, cable side laterals are a constant with me, but I also add in some traditional dumbell work when I'm in the mood for even more pain.
