Postby Rab on Sun Jan 18, 2009 9:50 am

Tryng to find a pair of decent knee wraps. Looking on ATP the prices seem decent

There is bloody hundreds of them though. Whats the difference? WHich ones should i get?

I personally wouldnt go for velcro ones mate, velcro is fine on wrists as they stay straight, but if the velcro bit is slightly out of place on your knees it can pop off in the hole (no one wants things popping off while in the hole).

Assuming you want them for heavy squatting and not injury support all of those APT ones are fine, in fact i think the only real difference is the colour.

I have a set of black and white APT ones and Red and black Inzer ones and tbh although the Inzers feel a little more taut, once on my knees i dont know the difference... and i paid to import the inzer ones from the states at twice the cost of the APT ones from Extremesupps/PL.

I would definatly not go for velcro ones, especially at the weights you'd be using them at, last thing you want as Mark said is it popping off when your in the hole.

I got Inzer 2m red and black. Had them a year now and they still work perfect, got them from the states cost me £30 (i think, was a mass order).
If you're not sure if you're getting quality sleep or not, this is your standard: You should always wake up under a teepee. If you don't have a boner so solid you have to do a handstand to take a morning piss, your Testosterone levels are probably low.

i have Inzer ones with no velcro and they are great. But as APT are easily available get some of those without velcro and they will be as good as inzers

why do you want a pair? Unless you're powerlifting, no point and increase injury risk imo.

yes - as you are basically forcing the knees shut in an unnatural manner. Its like a false sense of balance

But there is pros and cons - its a big area of debate amongst lifters and has been for decades...

my knees always feel better when using wraps. Plus all this equipment started off as being protective aids for lifting. Its only when you take it to extremes you increase injury risk. If you have wraps on medium i think its good.

Im in the 'they make the lift safer' camp, especially as i carry a knee/hip injury from my short lived spell in the army, however I can see how improper use would be very dangerous, not just because someone may think they are a bench shirt for your knees and you can add lbs to your lift and try to squat above their ability but an attempt to 'bounce' on them could go very, very badly.

Luckily, knee wraps are not something your average gym turd has in their bag, anyone who's looked in to buying them i'd say is sensible and experienced enough not to be a donut with them.... belts on the otherhand....

for me also they are a safety tool. If im going upward of 140kg on squat i will use them and 300+ on leg press i use them otherwise they stay in the bag. Its also a confidence thing

What about knee sleeves? I'd like a decent set just to keep the joints warm, any recommendations?

For keeping knees warm you can either

Get a pair of APT Phantom wraps for ~15USD and wear them loose
Get a single neoprene sleeve in a high street shop for ~20 quid
Get APT or another internet brand sleeves for ~30USD

My knees aren't perfect, but since ditching wraps, i squatted 220kg atg and my knees have never been so good. Building up slowly without wraps you will allow your whole knee joint and surrounding connective tissue to adapt to the stress, not to mention greater muscular involvement at the bottom of the squat! Also as kp touched on, false security and improper patella tracking. Unless your a powerlifter i would just go with some neoprene sleeves for joint warmth and slight support.

Inzer wraps all the way.

I'm in the safety camp too. Never heard of anyone saying that they will increase the chance of injury.
