Irritable bowels, coeliac, vegetarian...

I know there was a decent fucking reason as to why I wasn't growing as well as I maybe should...

Firtly I put it down to the vegan diet, so gave that up in favour of eating eggs and milk and growing bigger... still, not much change... so went to the doctors to talk about how I shit at least 6times a day (50% of the time it's more, and we're not talking tiny ones either... decent manly shits!)

Anyway, went and had a blood test done, and they've come back saying I'm showing signs of gluten intolerance and has diagnosed me coeliac... he also said it's pretty likely that I also have IBS from a fair few other symptoms I've been having.

Now, seeing as I mostly only became vegan/vege for health benefits and less so for the moral reasons, I'm thinking of giving it up... all the replacement meat options have masses of gluten/wheat etc in them, which is playing silly buggers with my body, and seeing as I like something that resembles meat on my plate maybe I'll have to look in the direction of a cow...

I'm just a bit worried as I've not eaten meat for about 7years now, how my body will react, how I'll feel in general.

I know all you guys are thinking "Get some steak down yer neck ya fanny" but in a way I'd like to stay off it... I just have no idea of where to get all my protein from (obviously I've got my rice/pea protein, which is fine) I suppose I'm ok with eggs, and milk (just don't overly like milk). and all of it has to be free range organic (will also search out some local farmers for this).

I'm in a pickle basically... do I go the whole hog (literally) or do I spend tonnes more money on making sure I have gluten free everything? Anyone know anyone with same sorta problems as me? and how to calm them down?

If you turned to veganism for the supposed health benefits and now your body is playing up, i think you should do it a favour and give it some red and white meat. I really do.

IBS is a toughy, I've had it and recenly got food poisoning which sent me near back again. It's basicly caused by yeast and bad bacteria living in your guts stopping proper digestion of your food. The first thing to do is obvious! Stop eating anything with yeast in it, infact limiting wheat in general won't be a bad idea.

Next step is to stop any more bad bacteria getting into your gut, your body's defence against bacteria is stomach acid, you can find out if yours is low by adding some more and seeing if you get a burning sensation. You can either get betaine HCL tabs with pepsin or get NOW super digestive enzymes which contain this and more.

If your stomach acid is low (IBS and low stomach acid go hand in hand) you'll probably be zinc and magnesium defficient as they require stomach acid to oxidize.

As for the meat, what can I say, it does not seem to be the problem but it's got to be better for you than the meat replacement stuff so if thats your only reason for not eating it...........

I don't know about the IBS mate...but I've got a friend that's into training and did exactly what you're contemplating, and he's gained a lot of size in not a lot of time! A lot of fat gain too - but I don't think he eats especially cleanly.

You'll lack certain digestive enzymes so introduce meat fairly gradually and you should be fine.

Cheers for the response guys.

I'm basically for the next week/two removing all gluten and wheat etc from my diet, I will then see how I feel on the whole matter and if I feel fine with it I'll re-introduce meat back into my diet.

I'm thinking it's best if I start of with chicken what with it being pretty bland yes?

IBS --> no grains + 4 tablespoons of glutamine spread throughout the day on an empty stomach + cod liver oil for 2 weeks (high dose) then fish oil (high dose) thereafter + curcumin (the best curcumin supp - I have it) on empty stomach + very good digestive enzymes

That will hopefully repair your gut and get rid of the IBS

grains out as H4NI says.

If you are going to reintroduce meat I'd start whitefish as its easily digested. I weaned my daughter on it without any problems whatsoever.
