if you could only choose one

if you could only choose one

Postby roadz on Tue Jan 12, 2010 12:27 pm

I was thinking about this the other day so thought I'd make a thread about it.

If you could only choose one of each, what would it be? Here's mine:

Protein source: chicken, because it's so versatile and tasty. Never gets boring (IMO).

Carb source: brown rice. Probably because I'm half filipino and rice is a staple for them.

Veg: broccoli. Probably due to taste.

Fruit: banana. I usually have one PWO and I like them lol

Fats: olive oil. Taste isn't too strong so I like it for cooking.

Good thread Roadz. I am assuming I have to choose "good choices"?! :?

Protein - Chocolate flavoured protein! Gives me my chocolate fix without having to resort to the real stuff.
Carb source - Brown Basmati rice, I just love the stuff.
Veg - Green beans. Yummy.
Fat - Struggling here. Can't decide between EVOO, Hemp Oil or Cashew Nuts!!!!
Fruit - Banana. Fantastic for my swimming.

I've just realised I didn't state this in the opening post... It is pretty obvious but just in case people don't see it this way. When I said you can only choose one, I meant it as in you had to eat your choices for the rest of your life and nothing else!

Excellent thread idea.

Protein source: Venison (nutritious, free range, lean, tasty)

Carb source: Buckwheat. (most nutritous starchy carb i have found, tasty)

Veg: Kale/greens (it's all pretty much the same)

Fruit: Kiwi (low sugar, high vit C, tasty, eaten organic with skin on!)

Fats: Tahini (not strictly a pure fat but mostly oil!, tasty, endocrine benefits, very nutritious)

For practicality.

Protein - Chicken as it's lean and easily digested in quantity.

Carbs - Brown Basmati Rice as it's a fav slow release source.

Veg - Broccolli as it's nutritious and a great filler.

Fruit - Avocado as again excellent nutritional value and a great cheat way for another fat source.

Fat - A quality Olive Oil as it's versatile and I don't need to use it for cooking up chicken so retain it's raw goodness.

Alex, you and I have pretty much the same list, other than the fruit. I can't stand avocados... I think they taste like shit. I also really like blueberries.

It were any other fruit then probably grapes but I went for the fat vitamin content.

Putting nutrient content and availability as equal priority to taste I'd go with the following list:

Protein: whey isolate (highest BV and PDCAAS score of any protein, would want one especially high in alpha-lactalbumin content). If had to be a natural food I'd go with organic free range eggs.

Carb: quinoa (slow energy release, high PDCAAS for protein content, good fiber content)

Veg: brocolli (vit & mineral content, fiber, phytonutrients)

Fruit: blueberries (vit & min content, antioxidants)

Fat: hemp oil (great balance of fatty acids)

Protein - Venison, awesome in every way.
Carbs - Sweet potatoes, perfect carb in my opinion. Sweet, versatile and very nutritious.
Veg - Sauerkraut, very tasty and very nutritious.
Fat - butter oil, high in fat soluble vits and perfect cooking oil.
Fruit - Avocados, don't really do fruits other than tomatoes so i'll cheat. I don't think they are particularly important anyway.
