How many days Training?

Postby Rab on Sun Sep 28, 2008 11:13 am

How many days days training (at what volume and intensity) do you consider productive and most productive for both natural and assisted.

I would love to train more but i often wonder if i'm taking things too far for my genetics and capabilities.

IE - This week so far

Monday - SHoulders & tricep
Tuesday - Off
Wed - Back
Thurs - Chest
Fri - Off
Sat - Legs & Biceps
Sunday - ?????? Considering going to do a little shoulders & cardio ?????????
Monday 28th - Shoulders & triceps or back depending on what i do today

Workouts are about an hour long at a moderate volume and a pretty high intensity although not Blood & guts / DC intensity.

WOuld you consider this a productive routine for a natural? What about assisted?

Whats your minikum and maximum training regimes?

Allot of questions but this should make for good replys and an interesting thread.

I'm probably not the best person to reply given that I have no issue with lots of volume, however I will say that the body learns to adapt if you make subtle increases over time. For me having started Rugby again my body has started to stabilise now to the extra cardio and battering it's been taking and this has taken around 3-4 weeks. For me, this time scale was always typical of the period it could me to adapt to and increases in volume.

I also think it's difficult to pin down maximal and minimal gains here as it's also a question of quality vs quantity. DC, for example put on mass and strength rapidly but my feelings are that it's not super dense, quality muscle mass and can be lost almost as quickly as it's gained. Volume on the other hand is a lot harder to gain mass from, but when you do it's for keeps. Strength gains are a little easier to come by and these also can be retained a lot longer.

Liken these both to AAS usage if you will; D-Bol/Anabol vs Anavar/Winstrol. The former put on bigger gains but these can be lost quickly while the latter make far more subtle gains but are retained easily.

for me how often you train is dictated by your recovery ability. Some people like ALEX train with loads of volume and grow like a fucking weed. Some people like me would end up looking like and Ethiopian if i did what Alex does. SO my advice is to see how well you recover. 3 days weights is max for me but i can do cardio every day no worries. Maybe do
do
weights
cardio
weights
cardio
etc
