Hemp Protein

Postby Alex on Thu Sep 17, 2009 5:36 pm

Anyone know of decent manufacturers of this? I've come across Puremans which is also pretty well priced at £20 per 1kg although it's yet to be available. How would this compare to whey in the mornings?

Glad you brought this up Alex,it's something ive been thinking of acquiring as an alternative to my usual whey based powders.I've recently added Udo's to my diet and am very impressed so i thought this would also be an excellent addition.I look forward to opinions :)

I figure it's good to add some variation to protein sources while the EFA, fibre, mineral content and being non dairy make it attractive, especially as I dislike fish.

Hemp protiens amino acid profile is the closest to human DNA, so I think it would be a pretty good addition to a health diet.

No, DNA is a nucleic acid. Deoxyribonucleic acid DNA.

MP's brand is good.

Yaoh is very good. They also do a isolate that is very good. But you lose the fibre & Omegas.

Energiseforlife do some too.

But tbh you guys all like to buy in bulk at bulk prices so really MP is probably best bet. I get at trade prices so for me it doesn't matter.

I've run out right now, but am on Super Pea Isolate from bulkpowders and Sprouted Brown Rice from sunwarrior (expensive as hell!... I'm trying to get some NOW foods sprouted brown rice protein).

genetics was never a strong point and havn't done it since alevel, but im sure DNA contains theanine, guanine, amine and uracil (each of which contributes to the make-up of dna)... or something like that.

Near enough, Thymine, Cytosine, Guanine, Adenine, Uracil and few other random bases. Half my degree seems to be genetics.

Here it talks about the amino acids in hemp protein are good for DNA repair, I must have got it wrong. It's an amino acid that's close to humans amino acid. The only one found in plants that is.

Ahh yeah i get where your coming fro. Hemp protein is surprisingly complete for a plant, hemp in general is an amazing plant. I've started to go off dairy in general, so after i've gone through all my MPC I'll be buying hemp instead.

What's it like in terms of flavour/taste/"mixability"?

Tastes a bit nutty and a bit of a rougher texture, mixes fine in a shaker. I like it much more than crappy unflavored whey, plus all the other health goodies in it. You can buy flavored stuff but I've only tried the natural hemp.

^LOL. I've got some pea protein too, seems to have a good amino acid profile and at 90% protein, that's better than most whey powders going about. Not tried it yet though so not sure how it's going to taste, would be good to mix with hemp me thinks.

pea protein is all right for me. Some people find it not so good.

Mix with Rice Milk and it's all good though. Add cinnamon too. And yeah, mixing up your own blend of different plant proteins works well imo.

Will be interesting to see what the Puremans Hemp is like as it'll be cheaper than MP at £20 for 1kg.

Link to the product but there's no info on the site...

However if you click on the image and save the large popup then you can read all the label info. Appears to be decent enough.

I've been keeping an eye on the site for about a year now, looking for international delivery options...

Me want hemp protein - great nutritional profile.

Does anyone have any info on hemp protein absorption rates (compared to a whey isolate or a casein)?
