Hello all

Postby Oggy on Wed May 20, 2009 8:33 pm

Ok, I'm 26, been into lifting for 5 years with a 2 year break and just getting myself back into training. I've been to hell and back in my 2 year break after having drug addictions due to total loss of self respect when splitting with an ex girlfriend that I was with for 5 years and pain killer addiction that was genially for pain.

I've been drug free for 1 year now and back into the training on off for about 6 months and properly for the last 2 months and feeling great. The only thing is that I'm now very sensitive to what I put in my body now so diet effects me dramatically. I find that a low protein mostly raw fruit n veg diet works best for over all performance and mood, it took me 12 months to work out whats good for my body and mind through self trial and error.

I'm a welder/sheet metal worker to trade but my interest is now in nutrition and health for myself and others so I'm going back to school to get the qualifications I need to do a degree course in nutrition. I've done the partying and house buying part the other way round and its now time to educate myself in what I'm really interested in. I find nutrition a very fascinating subject as it really does effect my performance mentally and physically in a much more noticeable way than ever before. I am to be as healthy mentally and physically than ever before and sculpt a lean but strong body.

Oh and nice forum guys n gals. Been reading some threads yesterday and feel that I already know some of you. :)

Hey Oggy, welcome to ESN!

Sounds like you've been through a lot in the last few years and i can empathise with some of it having had not exactly the smoothest time myself. Anyway it sounds like things are going well for you and i'm sure they'll keep getting better!

Is a good forum this one and am sure you'll fit in well :)

Welcome aboard mate and good luck with the studying. Its obvious you have a passion/real belief in the nutritional aspect of things so I imagine you'd really progress well studying it and in later life working in the industry

Enjoy the stay

Welcome Oggster.

Just for kicks, can you please put down a couple of words describing your first impression of the people you've noticed? Could be a great laugh I think... :)

Welcome to the forum Oggy! I think it speaks volumes about your character that even though you ain't had the smoothest life you haven't let it beat you. Positive, enquiring mind and mental outlook is half the battle. Kudos to you for all you have achieved, and you have achieved a lot, and I look forward to reading your posts. ;)

Forgot to add something to my original post...

I find it quite interesting that there's quite a few former crackheads among us - not quite sure what to read into it, but it's interesting still.

Good point Rilla, sometimes you have to hit rock bottom to appreciate everything!

Cook rice as normal and stir in a tsp of marmite to your portion before you eat it or pack it for lunch.

Thanks for the warm welcome, you all seem like a really friendly bunch here. :) Its also good to see some mixed views in the diet section and its not all one way of thinking like a vegan forum. I like debate, it brings more questions to ones mind.

Welcome mate. For some reason your avatar reminds me of Max after Curt gave him an angry pirate. :D

Maybe it's the slightly constipated facial expression. :D

Lol, whose Max? That pic must be about 2 and a 1/2 years old, not long before I hit total destruction. I lost a lot of muscle and put on about 1 stone or more of fat (opiates give me big cravings for sweets). I'm back down to 84.5kg now and putting on strength (muscle memory is funky :D ), was 88.8 2 months ago and 94kg 1 year ago so big changes have been going on.

If the constipated pic is not cool I'll change it guys? :(
