Gyms in Canary Wharf

Postby Spit on Mon Jun 13, 2011 10:44 pm

I start work in CW on Wednesday and went down to case the joint / test my commute / look at girls today; while there I sought out the Virgin gym (I'm currently a member of the Crouch End branch) and got a workout in. It's actually smaller than the Crouch End one, but because it's one of their swank ones they want a cool £100/month, which I'm not really up for. As a result I went to check out the Reebok gym there which is INSANE- surely the best-equipped gym in the UK- and for the same money it looks like a far better bet, plus it's yards from where I'll be working.

Thought I'd just check on here and see if anyone has anything to add before I take the plunge? There are obviously tons of gyms in that area catering to the City crew, and none of them are going to be cheap, so any feedback (good or bad) would be appreciated.

Reebok is THE best gym Ive probably been to ever. I went there for about 5 months when I was at a Bank there. Awesome gym, just try and avoid peak times as its rammed but expect to be distracted alot! ;) Youll enjoy working in CW mate - awesome atmosphere and lots to do and some real nice places to eat.

Aside from that - you got a good few smaller gyms and then there is a LA Fitness.

Rebook IS expensive but dont get tied into the contract - say you are a contractor and only there for 6 months can they do something!....or try 3 months. I did that will 6 months as thats how long I was there for and it was ace. Was around 3 years back.

Where you working btw?

Wicked, Reebok it is then I reckon. An insane setup, and you're right, the amount of quality poontang in there (and in CW generally) was off the scale. The corporate deal means I can quit at any time, no minimum contract, I did make sure of that.

Excited about the food too, Mexican every lunchtime for me if I get my way! 8-)

i did a year at a large lloyds underwriter last year - its next to the BoE - around 100 yds on the other side is a Virgin gym..£130 a month! and PACKED!!! Anything in Zone one is going to be exp - as the cost to run something is astronomical - I would hate to see how much Reebok pay for that that space in one of CW prime locations

Certainly seems to be the going rate for Canary Wharf (that's with 200+ corporate membership mind, the basic rate is £107.50). This place has so much though- two floors of free weights / Hammer Strength, two floors of cardio (one in km/h, one in mph!), a basketball court, climbing wall... if I hammer the usage then it may turn out to be fair value.

For you though Rab, they'll do you a private locker complete with kit laundering... a snip at £80/month on top of the membership fee.

£100 a month !

I know certain " health clubs " that charge that and it includes a massage and shower

I train at home and at the gym . The gym is £3 a go and home is free . Works out at about £18 - 24 a month depending on shifts

£100 is just insane
