Antioxidants and Health blog wrote: How To Absorb More Antioxidants From Green Tea
More than 80% of the antioxidant catechins are lost after green tea is digested in the body.

A study was conducted in comparing the catechin levels, in a simulated digestion, when green tea is combined with other beverages. Lemon juice ranked the highest causing only about 20% to be lost after digestion. Vitamin C also produced a good result.

The popular scene of an iced tea with a slice of lemon at the top of the glass is not just for presentation after all. It makes the antioxidants in green tea more absorbable by the body.

If you don't like the taste of green tea, mix it with fruit juices preferably lemon so you can enjoy the taste and at the same time get more antioxidant benefits.

Interesting.

Goes to show that vits/minerals/herbals often work synergistically together.

I assume the loss would be the same with a capped extract?

no idea. But if it is then just goes to show that taking supps with a multi &/or other supps is almost always a good idea.

And also the study info I read didn't say if the individuals had been "starved" for xhrs to ensure their stomachs were empty.

I added fresh organic lemon juice the other day but didn't like it with the green tea. I tend to have a green tea after food when at home to alkalise me, and when I eat I always have a few supps so I'll be ok me thinks.

but you do see quite a lot of green tea & lemon drinks out there.

in theory, yes. Cos lemon contains Vit C. It's a small amount but nonetheless it'll help. Plus lemon's are alkalising so I can only assume that the green tea with lemon juice will be slightly more alkaline.

at the risk of sounding like I've got dementia, I believe that most anti-oxidants work better with other anti-oxidants.

Lemon contains more Vit C than Orange as a rule.

I wonder what effect adding chocomine would have?
