I have to admit I love the DB's and kind of struggle using anything else. I hate BB bench be it incline, flat or decline and I'm not keen on any machines either for one reason or another... the hammer strength are good until I'm at my limit and then I don't like them. I find actually getting the weight going quite dangerous on hammer because the shoulders are in an awkward postion and overstretched if you know what I mean?

Cheers mate, I've seen what you lift... you could do with the DB's in my gym, can't remember exactly what they go upto but it's at least 70kg.

Funny you should say that, when doing my warmups I thought the 40's felt bloody heavy lol!

You think thats bad the 10s in my gym are the heaviest DB's around. (*potenially massive lie)

Cheers fellas.... you guys think that's a lot of volume?

Just ordered some Cissus-Drol, might get some Cissus 50% aswell hopefully will help me hold onto some of this muscle while I try to whittle my waist down from 37" to a more respectable 34"

Decided it would be wise to take some time off as the tendon injury I picked up from my biking incident a few weeks ago was just getting worse and worse. Also rupturing my achilles tendon just did my head in so before I wrecked myself again I took a break... again *yawn* :?

Got a letter from the surgeon on Thursday saying he was willing to take my case on, I'm booked in to see him Sept 7th... not looking forward to it tbh.

Went back to the gym today and all seems better, been taking Cissus while I've been off.

Sunday 9th August
Back - Triceps - Rear Delts

Workout 1 of 3

60-90 sec rest between all sets MAX!

Hammer Hanging Chins - 2 sec hang, lean back with full contraction and squeeze at top!
6,
5,
4(f) - attempted 5th but couldn't quite get it.
Bent over Barbell Rows - Favourite exercise, not done these for months!
10x60,
10x60,
10x60,
Deadlifts - Easy does it on first day back
5x100,
6x100,
6x110,
6x110.
Underhand Cable Rows
12x60.
Dips - Did 60rep warmups first. Great focus on triceps
10x3
Overhead Cable Tricep Extentions - I performed the warmups before the dips
- (WU=15x5, 15,10, 15x15, 5x20, 5x25, 5x30)
12x40,
11x45.
Cable Row to Face -
15x15,
15x25,
15x25.

Total Workout Time = 50 mins in and out

Good workout that really had me sweating buckets. Rest times super strict, all sets under 90 secs and I start couting from the last rep finishing to the first rep starting next set. No rest swapping exercises.

Everything felt good, could feel the tendon a little tight on the chins as the hangs are quite stressful due to the stretch.

Sorry to hear about the tendon trouble mate. When did you do your achilles tendon?

& what's with the surgeon - is that to do with your hand?

Did it a few weeks ago reaching for something off the top of the fridge!!

Yeah same old injury. It's not just the hands, it's everything from the elbows downwards.

I really feel for you with your tendon issues. Am having a taste of something similar with arthritic pain in my hands, knees and elbows - can sympathise.

Found out not long ago that my issues could well be related by some meds I was on for a couple of years - fookin brilliant! Am not sure it can be reversed but hope it can at least be halted.

Anyway good training - as usual :)

Tuesday 11th August
Chest - Biceps - Delts

Workout 2 of 3

60-90 sec rest between all sets MAX!

Inc DB Press - Not bad, strength usually drops dramatically on these after any kind of break. Poor setups aswell.
9x40's,
7x45's,
5x45's.
Bench Press - Meh
7x90,
6x90,
10x90.
Hang Cleans - I think these have played a big part in my injury problems, very hard on hands/forearms. No more.
10x40,
10x50,
10x50.
Seated Arnold Press - 4-1-1 tempo, good concentration getting all stress onto working muscles.
11x20's,
8x20's,
8x20's.
Seated Incline Hammer Curls - Again getting all the stress onto working muscles
12x12.5's,
12x12.5's.
Cable Curls - Bi's beasted.
12x40,
10x45,
9x45.
DB Lat Raises -
15x10's,
10x10's.

Total Workout Time = 50 mins in and out

Another good workout. Rest times super strict, all sets under 90 secs and I start couting from the last rep finishing to the first rep starting next set. No rest swapping exercises, caught me out on the bench press as very tired from inclines... took me until the 3rd set to recover lol!

Really trying to forget about the weight I'm using and just trying to focus as much stress onto the muscles and away from joints/tendons.

Doesn't sound too good.... scary shit when you think about it isn't it? Really can give you a big slap of reality when you get problems that you associate with ageing, even if that's not directly the case or cause. The arthritis was the one that scared me the most with my hands and why I took the 6 months off, though one thing the ultrasound did show was that it wasn't anything to do with arthritis in my case.

What are you doing to combat it?

I injured the tendons in my wrist a few years ago doing cleans & they never fully recovered. The position where you catch the bar with your wrists bent back is pretty hard on the tendons.

Sorry to hear that Det. Both my parents have bad arthritis, my mum has had 3 hip replacements & 1 knee replacement & my dad has terrible rheumatoid arthritis. I'm 38 now & sometimes wonder what I'll be like if I get old, its likely I'll get osteoarthritis in my spine because of my pre-existing condition - no point worrying about it though :)

Well right now am just keeping an eye on my omega 3/6 balance and keeping diet good. Will probably take some glucosamine, msm etc but the studies don't actually show much from those despite the common reputation they have.

One thing I'm hopeful for is the possibility that my joint pain might be a combination of arthralgia due to a reaction to the meds and arthritis rather than just arthritis. While I've definitely got that - have a few little bumps on my knuckles now, the sudden change in things over the last six months might well be linked to the drugs I was on. Stopped the meds about two months ago and possibly a slight improvement - is hard to tell for sure yet though.

Richard - yeah, family on my grandfathers side were affected pretty badly, and with sudden deterioration from their mid thirties - I'm 35! Agree that its not worth spending lots of time worrying about it though... lifes too short!
