Estrogen and Fat Burning

Postby Canuck on Sat May 10, 2008 7:01 pm

Elevated levels of estrogen promote greater fat burning and spare muscle glycogen.

This means, for women, consideration of the time of mid-luteal and mid-follicular stages, may effect the type of results seen from training.

I believe the study involved 24 women, so the results are applicable to women really.

They examined both mid-luteal, and mid-follicular stages (E highest)

Ah right, do women tend to gain weight when they go through the menopause then?

Not sure, but based on the results it appears that women may benefit from increase fat loss at days 14-21. This may help to explain any discrepancies between weight loss over certain periods, something that is normally unaccounted for when trying to lose weight.

Ain't that the bloody truth! Also women tend to get fat when they go through the menopause as their hormones change they lose the ability to taste sweet so like an alcoholic they need more sweet to get the same hit.

Which is just one reason they get can get fat.

Also I have reservations about estrogen being anything other than a total pain in the butt.

The culprit for fat increase is probably progesterone. There isn't one oestrogen (the term oestrogens would be more correct), they are 3 (oestradiol, oestriol, and oestrone) and during menopause oestradiol - the strongest one - drops massively and that also adds to the fat mass increase.
All that I say is hypothetically speaking and I do not condone the use of illegal substances. You should also eat your vegetables and use high SPF sunscreen
