Charlotte's journal 09/01/2009

Postby the_cheshirecat on Fri Jan 09, 2009 8:56 pm

I have been "invited" to start keeping a journal, I think it'll turn out to be pretty scary/hilarious for you big boys, so go easy on me please...

FOOD: thyroid meds + 2 green tea caspules
Breakfast: I had a lateish night yesterday, didn't hear my alarms, crawled out of my bed at 6.55, got my meds, fed the cat, threw on my 4 layers, and rushed out.
Forgot to grab any food, I was too late to think of it really (I should start working @ 7... bit of a mess if you think that nobody can start if I'm not there...).
Lunch: 1 tin of garden peas + 1 tin of tinned corn, 1 chicken breast fillet, 1 nectarine peach
Snack: 1 apple
Dinner: orange + lemon squeeze 1 chicken breast fillet

ACTIVITY:
Morning: 30 + 30 mins of intense activity @ work (*)
Afternoon: 90 mins walk with my dog (used to take 120 mins, so I guess I have started walking faster... will have to think of an alternate route).
also tried to throw in some cardio but had to stop after 20 mins because with a sore left calf and right foot I couldn't spare either to compensate.
Please, note that I am not a wreck, but here lately it's like trying to walk on an ice rink for most of the day, I can call myself lucky for having tripped only 3 times this week :|

VARIOUS:
The gym on my doorstep might be a decent one. Good news it's that there's a swimming pool :D

(*) @ craig: I def think part of my work might be considered as cardio, today my arms felt as if they were coming off!

I think you are going about things in the right way from the point of view of building up the exercise you do gradually. I think you are doing really well already, and having a Collie will certainly MAKE you do the walks!

If you can manage to get yourself into more of a routine with the nutrition aspect that will do you the world of good both physically and mentally. It also gives you a sense of achievement that you have managed it!

(please note, I am NOT preaching here. Oh man, could I tell you some stories of sheer horrendous disorganised mess when it comes to nutrition!!!).

I just know what a huge difference it makes when you can get bit of a handle on it. Makes you want to keep hold of the handle more too.

Can you perhaps draw yourself up some strategies of coping with the various situations you encounter, given you say you have a bit of a chaotic "schedule". For example, keep some healthy snacks on you at all times to make sure you can eat right when you need to to keep your metabolism ticking over nicely? Make yourself a set amount of time each day where you dedicate it to preparing the right food so you can get what your body needs? I did this to start off with...said a particular half an hour of the day I would normally waste was my food time, nothing else, and stuck to it. After keeping to that for a while it kinda became a habit which just grew....

You are doing great though. Keep it up!

great advice, the problem is when I found her (lol that sounds like a puppy or something), she had no food in her house at all :P and was eating one meal a day. This is defiantly the way forward though.

Thanks Chris. I've just always found if I have a plan, and start doing things in small manageable chunks it grows by default and becomes part of positive learned behaviour.

Big big progress from no food and one meal a day! Every journey does indeed start with a single step, and each step is an achievement you should only measure on your own standards i.e. one man's improvement is another mans step backwards.

"Found" her?

Surely what is really meant here is you met, discovered an Italian who can in fact cook, from scratch, Italian food and fell at her feet proclaiming you would go to the ends of the earth to help her as long as she cooked for you. I don't blame you, I've got an Italian mate who's tiramisu is so good people cry when the bowl is empty.

I think you ended up in the list because you're a woman, and therefore scary by default!

Actually Craig claims that he can cook exactly like me (meaning that he can do better), if he bothered wasting his time doing things properly, but he has much better things to do, like helping me pulling myself together.
PS I have just posted a tiramisu' recipe for Rab, I think Craig will start fussing just reading the ingredients

:) my little girl is quite a handful, and she'd run her feet off, so I am really lucky, you're right!
I will have to slow her down a bit tho, my home will soon be filled with tiny Collies, exercise is still very good for her, but she definitely shouldn't overdo at the moment! :D

I know exactly what you mean!!!
At work I am quite precise, but this is where order ends: going back to something that might resemble a normalish routine is one of my objectives, and it seems that I am improving a lot in this direction too!
This could mean no more vacuuming at 5.00 AM, my neighbors will be happy!

Emergency supplies in the car could be a good idea, I had already considered keeping some breakfast stuff at work, for when I have to get there in a rush...
Giving cooking a set amount of time is a bit of a problem, I tend to get carried away when I start, I just find it relaxing, specially when I get stressed at work!
I guess I will get there when my life starts getting more structured, stay tuned ;)

And where is the problem with this? If you take longer, then great! It relaxes you can calms you. Then cook!!!!! Who cares if it takes you 2 hours. My thought was to encourage a certain amount of time at least on thinking about preparing the right food AT LEAST. If you do more, then it's all good, especially if it has those psychological benefits for you too.

No problems at all, only if the time is irregular it can't be a routine :D
Having said that, I will soon spend a whole afternoon baking some 3 kg cantuccini (the classic version with almonds, and the blasphemous white&black, and hazelnuts/wholenuts&chocolate chunks) that I have promised to send to a few friends of mine...
They were supposed to be baked and posted for Christmas, but then a series of unfortunate events made me postpone the whole thing!
I am afraid it'll be my last session for a while tho: what with my job, the training routine and, touch wood, Fluke's litter, I will be a very busy girl for a few months, and I will consider myself lucky to be able to respect regular "cooking sessions" for my food!
(but I will have to, or else my ass will be kicked by so many of you that I won't be able to sit for years!)

DOH!
I have "slightly" overslept on Saturday, and Sunday has been another lazy day because, of course, there was no chance I'd fall asleep on Saturday night after sleeping so much!
I have been a good girl and fitted in regular light meals tho.
But tomorrow is another day, and I will surely make up for the weekend: Mondays are usually very heavy days at work, so plenty of chances for me to move a lot, and Fluke sleeps a bit more, but she still wants to run and walk, so I will make her happy :D
The only problem is that I'll have to check my calf very carefully: it still feels sore when I flex my foot completely, and I still can't spare it because of the foot.

Not a good two days, I know, I have done well building a routine for "working days" I will def have to work on weekends too now!

Well done on fitting the regular meals in!

Do be careful with that calf. Sounds like you may have pulled something...

Don't worry too much. I find weekends a nightmare too, but over time they will become much easier!

Well the important thing is you are making progress, that's obvious and most important. Plus you have Craigy boy to keep you inline. ;)

With Fluke, do you get the opportunity to walk her on natural surfaces? If so, try and do that as it's much better for her especially while she's expecting as the impact is less.
