Bench - 15/07/09

Bench:
20 x 10
60 x 3
80 x 1
90 x 4 missed 5
Phenom, 2 board
120 x 3
120 x 3
120 x 2 missed 3

Push press:
20 x 5
40 x 3
60 x 8
60 x 8

Kipping pullups:
+0 x 10
+0 x 10
+0 x 10

Decent today. Armpits are torn to shreds. I don't look forward to touching my chest in the Phenom. Line wasn't great but not bad for a shirt I don't know that well. Also I will need to hammer my lockout to get anything out of this shirt because at the moment I am stronger in a single ply.

I think I might be extremely low on stomach acid, which is quite exciting because it means all the stuff I've achieved (mostly in terms of bodyweight, but since strength is tied to that...) thus far has been done at quite a bit of a disadvantage. If I can fix this I could be set to move some serious weights at the Worlds.

Craig is the man to ask about stomach acid. I think betaine HCl is the product for you.

Yes I've been doing this test with betaine HCl: http://ironaddicts.com/forums/showthrea ... 870&page=1

My pills are dosed at 324 mg and I got up to 6 pills with my last meal without feeling anything really - so a bit more than Poliquin says means I'm achloridic. On the other hand I suppose I might just lack much feeling in my stomach.

Yesterday I had 4 with my last meal of the day and it's the first time I really felt anything from the zinc in my ZMA. Can't remember where the quote is from but I passed the highly scientific "I would need to do a handstand to get any of my piss in the toilet" test for testosterone levels.

I've PM'd Craig.

The thing I don't get is why people don't stop and think why they have low stomach acid. There will be an underlying problem causing the low stomach acid and until you address this problem using betaine HCL will only ever be a plaster over a cut that need stiches. The most common cause it unbalanced gut flora (including being over run with yeast), however in my case it turned out to be celiac, so I wouldn't be too set on any one problem.

You shoud be taking capsules not pills of betaine, crush them and get some empty caps. Taking that amount of betaine is both unsafe and a waste of money, bin Charles's article he talking shit.

Sorting the problem at the route of it makes much more sense, a good probiotic (like dr omx), a clean out of the gut with oxyflush and a yeast clear out with mega dose raw garlic (cap it your self) would be my first port of call, any issues remaining after this and it's time to get the GP to run some tests. :)

Cheers Craig. I'll try that stuff as soon as I've got the cash. In the meantime I'm feeling pretty good on betaine so I'll keep taking it albeit at a lower dose. I had a sneaky feeling Charles might be talking shit, but I oh so wanted to believe I could take a pill and put on 15 lbs of muscle in 2 months:lol: Out of interest why are betaine caps better than pills?

Lower - 17/07/09

Sumo deadlift:
Single ply suit bottoms on. These don't do anything and when I took them off there were no marks at all.
60 x 5
100 x 3
belt
140 x 1
170 x 8 wanted to do more reps today so I did another set.
150 x 11

Front squat with straps to a box:
Box 1" lower than normal, suit still on.
60 x 5
belt
100 x 5
took the box up to about its normal height
100 x 5
100 x 5
All very hard. The straps allow me to sit back, and doing fronts like this is brutal on upper back, ab and lower back stability, while forcing me to stay more upright than I would with a regular squat. Exactly what I need to be working on for a big equipped squat.

Ab rollouts:
from knees

Well pills need to be broken down.......... by stomach acid :)

Caps contain powder and so are released more quickly.

15lbs in 2 months........... boy that guy can talk some utter poo!

Nah I don't like pulling in gear and even sumo I never really get much out of it. I can probably pull about the same raw in either stance but I'd rather do conventional because I'm less likely to miss a lift by having a slight flaw in my technique. I'm just doing sumo now for some variation.
