I've just always pulled in them. It was Rippetoe's idea originally and when I tried it it felt pretty good. I expect I could pull about the same in flat shoes, but I doubt I could pull more.

Crap session yesterday. Working all day Wednesday and was still groggy after 12 hours sleep.

weird today - right shoulder felt terrible on warmups but 95 would have been a decent PB even if I only did it once. It felt easy and my shoulder felt OK.
