Branded Supps

Postby Coop_de_Ville on Tue Mar 09, 2010 5:55 pm

Why are people so taken in by the branded companies?
I have just tried to explain to somebody how they are really bad value for money not just in the quantity of what you get but the quality! But they just don't listen, just because some bloke off last man standing says that "cyclone makes me feel like I have been the gym twice in one day". That doesn't even make funkin sense!

What annoys me more is that this person and the other people who are annoying me are "scientists" or work in the field of sports science. Surely the can see just by looking at the quantity of the ingredients and that "proprietary blend" means that they are just BSing everybody about the amount of stuff in their magic mix!

Rant over! But does anybody else have this experience?

I don't bother anymore, if people want to waste their money then so be it.

There was one bloke down my gym, fat wanker, who was drinking meal replacement shake immediately before his workout. I sort of said, that's a bad idea and as you're chubby, don't even do that post fat boy, and the wanker didn't listen as he'd bought this stuff off of a PT (who should know better).

I have made it my mission to ridicule anyone who owns a tub of Cyclone . The amount of skinny teens who buy this shit is massive

I dont suspect they have a lot of returning customers

I do see a lot of guys at the uni gym with the popular NO2/creatine blends before workouts and shaker bottles with all kinds of different coloured shit they sip on during the workout.
I've always preferred branded whey powders over the likes of MP/BSD. Wasn't taken in by anything, its whey powder at the end of the day, but i preferred the taste, USN especially. Don't use any of the that stuff now though, 100% food.

The first supplements I ever used were Weider ones years ago... bought Egg Protein, Liver tablets, an amino acids pack (forget the name) that had lots of different shaped tablets, lol, and a carbohydrate energy drink. Despite the fact that they were probably over priced they were simple and did the job.

That was 15 plus years ago, and after not training much at all in about ten years, when I came back to it the range of products was huge compared to how it was back then. I was lucky though that I came back to it with a little nutritional knowledge, and in my search for straight EAA's which I figured were all I needed I found MP, then later BSD of course, and so have never really gone down the route of those stupid over priced crappy supps.

What does amazes me is how many people don't realise just how much more expensive many the branded blends are compared to buying the individual ingredients from a bulk supplier... it also surprises me more that many of these people believe the nonsensical claims of these products, and I put a lot of blame on the rediculous hype surrounding some of the products for kids thinking a fat burner will lean them up on a bulking diet, or that some fancy looking pre workout supp will give them gains greater than are possible even on AAS.

I use a bit of branded stuff but only because i get it cheap from a friend

Theres a guy in my gym selling muscle fury stuff making a killing. its 25 bucks for a tub of the whey. lot of sugar in it but it tasted really good - banoffee flavour. convenience and taste are two important factors for many. having someone hand you a tub in the gym is easy and quick!

For the last few years I've only used bulks wheys and they haven't tasted great, especially my last one.. MP's Cranberry, tasted like absolute shit. I've just ordered 3 different flavours of Boditronics express whey and must say it tastes great. Also, this will last me about 3 months and I pretty much only use it PWO, so the price difference across that period of time isn't much.

Was always a ProLab fan in the past but typically I'd get whatever GNC had on offer at 40% off at the time. Never really used Maxi but find it tastes pretty bad, as does Muscle Tech and both are as bas as each other on pricing.

Maximuscle just emailed me ...

How to pack on muscle with the strongest creatine ever?

If you’re looking to pack on muscle and strength fast, then there a few things you must do. Clearly an effective weight training programme 3-4 times a week, good sleep (7-8 hours) and a high protein diet is vital to maximise your potential. Many gym users will also ask, ‘but what supplements’ can I take to boost the results?’

One of the most proven and effective performance nutrients is Creatine, which has substantial research showing not only is it effective, but also its safety. Taken with weight training it really can increase muscle mass, size and strength within a week. Maximuscle have always prided itself on offering the best creatine not just a plain creatine, but one that has the correct and added synergistic ingredients that can support creatine absorption, uptake and effectiveness. Creatamax Extreme is the culmination of over 10 years of R&D, making it now the UK’s best selling creatine product.

...

These guys know how to market - And no doubt a lot of people will be swayed by it :!:
