BPO UK Open, Summary & My results

Postby Matt on Sun Sep 14, 2008 7:52 pm

So I got back at 7pm, a lovely 4 hour 30 minute trip, there and back.

So the venue was in Swansea, at Four Seasons Club. From what I was told it was suppost to be a bad venue but to be honest it wasn't that bad, sure the warmup area wasn't that big but the platform area and seating was nice, and of course the people there were again amazingly helpful and nice.

It started around 10:15am (ish) as far as I remember, the fights went quickly with some very heavy lifts, a few british records were broken again.

But to my stats and lifts.

Age- 17
BWeight- 73.7kg (I think it was .7)

Squat

  1. 135kg
I got Steve from the Kidderminster team to wrap me for this, he wrapped it well but it was didn't feel that tight even though he did wrap it tight. The lift itself felt easy with belt on notch 4.
  2. 142.5kg
Steve wrapped me again tighter this time, I had him help me put my belt on notch 5. It was near easy but near maximun.
  3. 147.5kg
As Steve was warming up I had Rob from the KM Team wrap me for this, he got it I think as tight as he could, which was tight, as well as helping me put my belt on notch five. I missed the lift as I reached the top of locking it out I leaned to far forward so I had to step forward.

I pulled my lower back on lockout, was hard to walk at first and I couldnt sit or stand without it hurting, I had to lie down for 45 minutes, started getting better when I started warming up for bench.

Bench Press

  1. 105kg
Belt notch 4 and wrist wraps, easy as pie. Solid opener.
  2. 110kg
Harder but I got it, felt smooth enough, belt notch 4 and wrist wraps, used chalk as I had slippery hands.
  3. 115kg
I thought I had another lifter between me and my attempt but it turns out I didn't so I wasn't prepared, I was going to have my belt on notch 5 but didn't have time so #4 and also wasn't able to put my wrist wraps on, I missed it at about 4" of my chest.

Deadlift
  1. 65kg
Did it sumo to reduce the pressure on my lower back. Needed it for a total.

Total - 317.5kg

So after my deadlift attempt I decided to go, it was along drive home and didn't want to get stuck in traffic. Besides my lower back strain it was good, im happy with my bench.

AND A HUGE THANKS TO THE KIDDERMINSTER TEAM FOR THERE HELP AND SUPPORT

Cheers sim, yeah it sucked alot.. might have to lift light for a bit, I was suppost to be doing the BPO European Championships @ Germany in November but with my back I think i'll wait until next year.

No he wasn't, but its fine. Steve and the rest of the Kidderminster team helped me alot in his lack of attendence.

Unlucky on the deadlift mate but well done on the squat and bench. Where you suited for squatting or was that in just wraps and belt?

Just wrap and belt, I want a 2.5-3x bodyweight squat or deadlift (which ever comes first) before I use a suite.

Good meet Matt, shame you picked up an injury, make sure you get it looked OK? Kudos for continuing and getting some nice lifts in. :D
