Depends whether he will want to play bluerays. Pricing isn't that much different anymore and as much as you'll get fanboys on either side, they're pretty close in terms of performance, with a few pos and negs for each. I'd go with ps3 as I like bluerays, slightly better potential in terms of power and it's a bit less effort (no need for network subs, batteries for controllers etc).

On line, the 360 wins hands down. Also, Gears of War iii coming out which will be amazing. Although PS3, will last a little longer as 360 will be replace in 2 years time.

I cant say im fussed about Blue Ray tbh

I did see this Marvel game the other day being played at Hamleys and it looked the dogs bollox! It had Hulk in there and other characters but dont know what its called.

Ill prob head over to some of the stores and see what offers there are on the packs

Agree Simon - the next PS4 and Xbox are just going to be out of this world - especially if they are true 64bit. Almost going to be scary in terms of quality and game play

People say this, but i've played a fair bit of COD online and PSN seems fine to me? Maybe xbox online is better but i don't think PSN is particularly bad.

I've used both and xbox is 1000% better on line. so easy, so well desisned.

Am honestly too scared to buy a modern console - I waste enough time just on my PC, with one of those I could be in serious trouble.

Playing the occasional game of Tekken 3 on my almost antique PS1 is about as much consol gaming as I do!

Det - Im not a big gamer aside from COD and few others but FIFA11 and Fight Night are just damn good once you master all moves.

My ps3 got the yellow light of death, just as well with uni work. Going to have to get me a ps3 slim for my birthday though.

PSx would always be my preferance but I'm a sucker for the Gran Turismo series.
